HFGH doors falls off.......

I went out there to adjust the heater and the door fell right off!!!!! It's been getting harder and harder to slide back and forth but we couldn't find anywhere where it was binding. Well I have it propped up against the frame with a chair and weight holding it in place. I tried everything to get it back in the tracks and no dice! My husband was already in bed so.....

Yes, it is almost noon here. Were you able to fix it?

We tried but can't get it to slide freely as it did before being opened for the summer. We adjusted and greased the tracks it rides in, and it's still sticking, binding and doesn't want to slide freely. I don't know what we're going to do as there is so little room for adjustment of the tracks. He had to quit working on it and start getting the dishes ready for the Halloween party at a friend's house later this afternoon. The vents also stick and we can't free them. They're a tad too wide for the frame. There is no adjustment space. The aluminum is starting to stress from the force needed to close them every night. I'm about to pull my hair out.....

I'm still having a time with the fit on my window vents too (I need to spend more time with them soon to see what I can do.)

I had to do some fiddling with my doors when I installed them. I'm really happy with how smoothly they slide now, so there must be a way to get yours back to working right.

If you haven't tried this already, I found that making TINY adjustments to this black plastic clip at the bottom made a difference in how freely the doors slide. If you use a screwdriver to turn the screw one way or another, the little black clip moves up or down slightly. I'm wondering if moving the clip down (so it doesn't grip the track as firmly) might help?

If the window and door worked satisfactorily previously, the first thing I would do is check for any parts that may of worked loose. If no parts came loose I would check to make sure the foundation is still absolutely flat and level. If it is not, check for roots from a nearby tree. The window can slide left or right, you may have to restrict this movement. The door cross members and poly can be trimmed and hinges installed. I think your best solution would be to try to get through the winter then add a 4 ft section onto your Rion. John

Oh crap GH'er what a bummer. I don't know to much about this kind of stuff, but I told my husband about your "door falling off" window problem post and he said he would be looking for a shift in the foundation that may have caused things that once worked, to not work so hot now. Kinda goes along with what John said. I hope you are having fun at the party. Let us know what you find out.

That part is definitely worth looking at tomorrow - if our door is made the same. We got back too late to work on it tonight. It's sliding better but still binding. My greatest fear is it falls off during a real freeze when I try to close it one day (or night). It fell off because one of the top wheels that rides in the top track fell off the thing like a car tire frame or rim. Sort of like your tire falling off the rim. It was laying in the grass with the rim still up on the door. He put it back on the "rim" and slid the door back in the greased tracks and it was till binding... but we had to quit and get ready for the party at our friend's house. Tomorrow we'll look at that bottom adjustment if there is one on our door. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

He was making his specialty dishes. He's a good cook when he takes a notion to cook something - which is rare. I do about 98% of the cooking. The best thing at this party was the Apple Carmel pie BTW. This couple has a beautiful yard with two ponds and gardens... just beautiful. All that's missing is a greenhouse. ;)

The door worked fine on the HFGH all last winter until I left it open all summer. As soon as I tried to close it for the first time it stuck. The tracks were clean. The two vents never worked right. Short of somehow trimming an RCH off each side they're not going to work right as far as I can see. The large 6x6s or whatever they're called can't move as they have long heavy rebars going deep into the ground and the frame is well screwed to these pressure treated beams. No trees are near the GHs.

We can't add on to the Rion because the foundation thing we got from Rion is set in concrete. It would be a major construction-destruction production to remove the back of the GH to add more sections. All that concrete and the plastic foundation would have to be removed somehow without destroying the GH frame itself... never happen in my lifetime. Once a Rion is set in place (and yes, more rebar was used) I can't see how it can be added on to unless it's just "sitting" on the ground.

We had some difficulty with the directions as well but did figure them out. I think someone on this Forum did post much better directions than come with the small HFGH. Perhaps someone will post the URL of that messages here for you. If you fear the frame will blow down why not take it down until you're ready to put it all up and finish it? If the frame twists it will probably be useless.

The foundation can't shift as the rebars go deep into the earth which is hard as a rock with the drought. No trees are nearby. The vents never worked right right from the start. They were always hard to close. I have 2 auto vent openers but can't use them until we somehow get the vents to open and close freely.
