Spring Roses looking great this year.

I have about 200 roses. All types from old quartered thick flower form to singles. HTs to shrub roses. Since I already finished my spring pruning, I can get a great look at all the leafing out roses. This is the best year ever, things are looking good. Mostly lots of canes and nice thick shrub roses and florabundas. Only one rose died over winter which was either a one cane wonder of a Mr Lincoln (I have two of them) or HOT COCOA, have to check my tags and can not remember which it was. Of course, I don't have that problem when they are blooming, I can just see the flowers :-))

Smaller struggling DISNEYLAND and TRAVIATA are both sending out lots of new leaves and those were the ones I thoought I might have to replace this spring. I do have a one cane wonder HT PERFECT MOMENT. Will see how it does. Things that die or don't work out easily get replaced.

Hi Rita...I share your enthusiasm with the spring growth! Here in Louisville, my roses are really bustin` out. The few I have removed are the ones that have struggled since the Easter freeze 0f 07. We have some cold weather predicted for next week, and I hope we will not have days of 20 something temps. A light snow should not hurt. There is so much joy in the start of spring that I feel so blessed to have my garden and all it brings. Hope everyone here has a grand season. Be nice, Mother Nature! The weather has been mostly cool so a cold spring. Those roses tried to start leafing out two weeks ago but as of now they are not even really fully leafed out. It just seems to be taking a long time. Of course, that could be because I go look at them everyday.

I have not had my roses that long and last year was the best spring flush ever. This year should be better if we do not get soaking rain right when they want to bloom.

I have this section in my front yard which has mostly shub type roses in a grouping at the top of a retaining terrace wall. The best view is from the street in front of the house although I also have a great view of it from inside the house thru my livingroom picture window.

I added to that rose bed last year so it should look even better now and just can not wait for bloom :-))

My roses also look very good this Spring. I have seen very little winter damage that I think is serious enough to cause the rose to die. Madeliene an Golden Age are the most tender from the looks of things. I do have a few others that are borderline including two Chris Evert's, Louise Estes, one of two Chihuly's, Outrageous, Laura Bush, Memphis Music, and Imperatrice Farah. Some of these are already on my Shovel Prune list, so they come as no big surprise.
I think that I will have blooms very early this year. My own root Veterans' Honor looks very vigorous as does Savoy Hotel, Pop Warner, and Melody Parfumee.
I think that last year was my best ever, but this will run a close second to that spectacular Spring.

Almost leafed out. Some actually are but its been such a cold spring that it seems to take forever.

Its not just me that thinks the roses look great. Lots of people walk their dogs along the street here so I see them everyday. I had a local dog walker today tell me the roses look fantastic this year. If they think those roses look good now, just wait until they bloom :-))

It is funny that you say others are commenting on your garden already because that too has been happening to me. I was out the other day almost 8 hours straight working in the rose beds. While I was doing this I had two people just pull up in the drive and get out to tell me how much they enjoyed my roses each year, even though right now they are probably at their worst. Some are breaking dormancy quite well while others are still asleep.
So far this has been a good spring though cool, but I think that our freeze opportunities have pretty well past according to the weatherman. If that holds true, this will be another spectacular year like last. Last year will be hard to beat.
