Screwing Down Panels in HF 6 x 8

Good grief. After weeks of nagging.

I get DH to look at mudhouse's pictures again.

We have our screws with our extra washers. We go out to the greenhouse and....the 6 x 8 has a totally different set up than the 10 x 12. There are no hollow braces across the panels!

He says there is room at the bottom of each panel to screw them in but not at the top. The lip of the metal they rest in isn't big enough. The points will be visible because the lips of the tracks the panels sit in don't have more than one face.

Has anyone screwed the panels down in the little greenhouse?

Please tell me you have photos.

I just assumed that looking at photos and reading about the 10 x 12 would be fine but it isn't and I'm back to square 1 trying to get my little greenhouse weather proofed.

Good grief is right. (I think your cable box needs to have a serious ac_ci_dent ;0) ......Well, I've been searching thru old posts on the 8x6 and so far I haven't found anything. What about silicone for the top, screws for the bottom?? I'm really interested in the 8x6 info too because I am very slowly (oh so slowly) beginning to drop very tiny (tiny) hints about NEEDING a "cactus house" ......and the 8x6 would be PERFECT!!!! The "orchid house" is a bit to humid for my cacti....I've decided..............

I hope someone comes along that can really help you out with this. Good luck!! Keep us posted!!

Nancy (imqtpi) put screws in the panels of her 6x8, and I just dropped her an email to make sure she sees your thread. I know other folks have put screws in the 6x8 panels too, and I'm sure we can round up some help.

Until a smarter person arrives, could the exposed tips of the screws be covered with a tiny bit of silver duct tape or aluminum tape? That way they'd blend in better visually, and the tips wouldn't be able to accidentally scratch you. Or, seems like you could put a little blob of caulk over each one to cover the sharp tip.

If I had to choose between exposed screw points or not having my panels screwed in securely...I'd definately live with the exposed screw tips...

I screwed mine in. One screw at the top and bottom of each full-sized panel.

Yes the points *do* stick through to the inside, but not by much so I'm okay with it. (And I am a total klutz, so if there was any danger of getting scratched, I'd've already sliced myself open by now!).

Worst case, you could maybe dremel the points off. But I don't think it's necessary.

You can "kinda" see the screws on the roof in the Optivent Open picture on my web-page.

I'll try to head out there later to snap some better pictures of the screws (inside and out).

I wouldn't stress about it! As they say in the Nike Commercials "Just Do It!"

You might go out to Lowes and buy some aluminum strips and screw through the poly panels and into the strips. That is what I did on the back of my 10X12.

Okay, I posted pics... Had to build a webpage and everything!!! ;-)

(Actually, in the time it would've taken me to setup and figure out a PhotoBucket Account, it was just as easy for me to setup a webpage!!!).

    Here ya go!

    HTH!

My little 8X6 is now the cool house with some cacti and the ferns calling it home until next spring. The larger Rion will be the warm house with everything else in it. It's nice to have 2 GHs. :-)

Thank you. I'll show it to DH. He is driving me crazy with this greenhouse.

He bought it for me for my birthday in 06 and built the foundation that I asked for with no grief what so ever but has balked on any other modifications.

We do get winds and we did have panels blow out last year. I don't want it to happen again. I suppose I could wrap the greenhouse with a pool cover but that seems overkill in our zone 8 climate.
