Mine did the same thing this year! I've never had a sport of any sort before now, and it was pretty exciting to find it. At first, I thought it had to be a cane from an adjoining rose mingling with VdB, but there's nothing dark pink in the vicinity. I've marked that cane, and I'll put in a couple of cuttings when I start propagating next month.

'Variegata di Bologna' is not the most stable of roses. In fact, if you grow VdB long enough, chances are VERY high that your plant eventually will produce solid-colored roses -- a reversion, no doubt, to its immediate progenitor, whatever that may have been . Issues regarding VdB/Victor Emmanuel/Huntington Brocade/Mrs Yamada have been discussed here at various times in the past. Anyone who finds roses of a solid red color on their VdB might consider relaxing as they realize that the rose is simply doing what it has done many times in the past in many different locations. We hardly need yet another VdB "sport" with yet another name.

The thing you'll notice is some of the sports are deep pink and some are red. Some have more petals. It's kind of interesting.
