neat photo of a birds nest in my roses

I just thought this was SO neat and SO pretty I wanted to share it even though I don't spend much time on the rose forum!

Incidentally, any insight on the variety of roses? They look sort of odd to me- not many petals, but clearly some sort of rose.

    Love the bird-nest photo!

Pretty! Any idea what kind of bird?

The rose looks a lot like Sally Holmes.

Those look like Mockingbird eggs. A Mockingbird made a nest in one of my roses exactly the same. Unfortunately I think we spooked her (we didn't know the nest was there). I hope she didn't abandon the nest and the eggs.

'The rose looks a lot like Sally Holmes."

I agree. I love her but she really is not a typical rose in her bloom habit. A bit of her musk heritage shows but she tends to form long panicles reminiscent of wisteria.

So pretty!!! Grey eggs are so unusual (at least here). Such a perfectly formed nest!!

    Awwww

The eggs and nest look exactly like the mockingbird nest that I have in my "Manchester Guardian Angel" rose on my front fence.

To concur with the others ... your rose is Sally Holmes.

Obviously a bird with good taste in home sites! Lovely rose too!

Sweet! I see birds in our roses all the time, but not a nest (yet). When I see them in the rose bushes, I'm always thankful we don't use poisonous sprays.

Curly, I, too, had a bird's nest in my Duchesse d'Auerstadt arbor - a cardinal's nest. I spooked her twice. Once trying to tuck in some wayward canes and once trying to get a photo of the babies. Turns out the babies were more mature than I thought. They flew away. Woosh! Scared me good. I was on the phone with my sister at the time, and she was yelling, "Get away, get away, you'll hurt them. They won't be able to get back in the nest." I said, "Sue, they FLEW AWAY. They're fine."

Yours is very cute. Just wait till they hatch!

Great picture----I am always so pleased when a bird chooses my roses to make a home for their babies.

I'm happy to report that my mocking bird eggs are now balls of grey fluff. Mom has not abandoned the nest and is tolerating my husband sitting out on the porch nearby. I hope to be able to get some pics of the chicks. We also have 2 wren nests in the hanging plants on the porch. It's a popular bird spot. Of course not one bird in the 3 bird houses I have around the yard :(

Got a pic! It's blurry because it's dusky out. Mom came right by and chased me off before I could get another one.

    How cute!!!

I have baby birdies that I can hear, but everybody gets so quiet when I come near, I never can find where they are. They are somewhere in a long stretch of akebia I have on a portico :)
