Enjoying My Roses this year more than ever before.

This is at least the 5th year I have had roses. Each year I had to buy, plant and move around roses until I got things pretty much the way I wanted them. I enjoyed them from the first rose shrub that I purchased but this year I find that I am just enjoying them so much more than ever before.

I think part of it that I didn't to do so much work on them this year. Yes, the spring prunning and fertilizing but no pot getto that kept screaming plant me. And no 20 roses to move around like I did one year because it was obvious to me I had planted them in the wrong spots the year before.

This year many roses are hitting year three in the garden and look so good it amazes me. I guess maturity does count. They are just starting to bloom now and each day I have gone and taken lots of pictures which I am really enjoying. Plus I just go around the garden and look at them at least three times a day.

How wonderful! Even though I'm working myself into exhaustion keeping up with edging, weeding, mulching, moving plants ect. I am enjoying my time in the gardens too. I have a full time job and the past 7 years I had a part time job as well to help buy all the plants and the materials that I used to build my greenhouse. This year I am only working my full time job and feel like I have so much time to work in my gardens it's WONDERFUL.

I'm hoping if I work hard this year and get everything spiffied up that next year I will be able to enjoy my yard as you are too.

I'm really happy for you. Sit back, grab a soft drink and enjoy what you've created. Lord knows, it's a lot of work.

Well. That's nice. So. Where are the pics of these roses that make you so happy? Make US happy, too! ;o)

    Rita,

My experience is that the plants need less care and perform better as they age. I try to place them well to start, but transplanting happens here quite often. I am worrying that I may have killed Molineux with a bad transplant this spring.

    Now, where are those pictures?

I am still enjoying those roses today. I did a new post just now and that one contains pictures so no one can grouse LOL.

Haha, jokes on you, cuz I can find ANYTHING to grouse about! lol Thanks, I'll check it out. :o)

P.S., I finally got my first bloom of the season, today!!!

I am enjoying my yard alot, too. It isnt just that my roses are well established, though many of them are. It's also that we had an early spring, with no freeze/thaw/freeze nonsense. I was able to prune much higher than usual, and the roses are just so much stronger and some are more flower filled as well. Bolero has never been so robust and covered with buds. I have had some insect damage and a bunch of HTs are light on buds, but overall, it's an amazing spring. Should be in full bloom in a week or two.

With a spring flush like this its no wonder I am enjoying my roses. Plus they are just really getting going. Lots and lots more to come. I have been so pleased with my roses this year I can't say enough how much I am pleased with those roses.

I really tried to be good and not buy more roses but this year the roses have pleased me so much that I just had to buy more. My idea before the spring flush was not to have anymore rose beds. Now, I am thinking differently. I just don't know what to say or how to express how pleased I am with the front yard roses. My sideyard roses need some work but I have a plan to re-arrange them so that things look more pleasing to me.

I am the queen of moving things around. It was a big surprise that I didn't do any rose moving this spring but I deffinatly will be moving some by fall or lots sooner.

Rita nice spread!! In the first picture what is that orange rose that seems to have a mixed yellow in it? I love the blend.

Its Charisma. Quite the attention getter when it blooms.

    Hi Rita
Where did you find Charisma? HMF says its extinc :(
I would really love to find it.

Its a rather small flowered Floribunda but its just so very pretty. It gets lots of attention because it just glows. Bought it at Roses Unlimited last year and its still on their list. I can recommend anyone that likes hot colors will love this rose.

Rita, in your first photo, there's a beautiful purple rose on the right. May I know the name, please? I love purple and mauve roses, and this one looks really purple!

    Thank you.

The more purpley one on the right would be a striped rose, Purple Tiger. I don't think you can see the striping very clearly in that picture. But heres a closeup view of Purple Tiger.

Hey Rita, your roses look awesome. I can see how you would thoroughly enjoy looking at them:-) What a beautiful spring flush. I agree, I had a very nice spring flush too. I don't spray anymore though, so I am getting rid of my roses that need to be sprayed. It seems I want my beds for other flowers, like daylilys and flowers for hummingbirds and butterflys, and blueberrys, etc. Maybe since you didn't have all the back breaking work with moving and planting you had time to really enjoy them.

    Hope your doing well,
    Maureen

Thank you Rita. Now that I look at the first picture closely again, I can see the stripes. It's certainly a very showy rose.

The big spring flush here is about over. There are still afew hangers on but most of the roses are done. Some are already putting up new bloom buds but most are in an in between stage as I finished pruning them and cutting all those spent blooms off. I still can't believe how glorious they were this spring, even with some rain damage and some roses getting those aweful rotting blooms that come from too much rain. I can truely say that I enjoyed my roses so much this year. This was what rose growing is all about.
