I know for sure that you won't regret either Baptise La Faye or Petite Francoise.
They're both WONDERFUL here in MY part of The Kingdom Of Fog.

That's great news Jeri. Can you give me approximate sizes? Was hoping to grow them in large containers. And how's their fragrance? Glad my instinct on Polyanthas for fog was correct. I just wish more polys had better fragrance.

Cliff promised that these new purchases would be larger plants than my previous roses Marie Delmar and Mme. Knorr. He's also going to a larger band size so future plants will be larger. All good news.

Diane, mine are still too small to give you useful information. I can only tell you that the foliage on the two polys is quite different, but in both cases showing great disease-resistance.

Baptiste has "peach-leaf" foliage, reminding me strongly of the Lambert Polys, like Leonie Lamesch? It is wonderfully fragrant, too.
Petite Francoise has smaller, very shiny bright leaves. So far, I'd say it was more a classic Poly than a Poly-Tea (where BlF is more a Poly-Tea).
I can't smell PF, but that doesn't mean it's not fragrant.

For those in Zone 5, I have found that Cliff's roses have been very winter-hardy...with only oak mulch at their feet and the leaves that have blown in. I was delighted that they were also the first ones to break dormancy...

Cliff has sent me some of the largest, healthiest bands from any nursery...these are not little wimpy twigs.

One of my absolute favorites is 'Gilbert Becaud'...the color is absolutely breathtaking! 'Cyclamen' is also another delightful rose that I recommend, along with 'Princesse Josephine-Charlotte'....luscious shades of pink.

Diane, I took a look - twice. Mme Joseph Bonaire is a great temptation. But I'd have to plant her in my neighbor's yard. Yeah, right! I only dig holes in my yard! Does anyone grow her and know about her size? There were others that called my name like Baptiste Lafaye and Mme Knorr. But given EuroDESERT's climate I'm sure he can't vouch for their BS resistance so I'll pass. I like his shipping policy, but I'll wait for RU's sale. (Somebody get me a straight jacket, please.)

I was glad to hear from Jeri that Baptiste Lafaye does well in her fog. I would think that it would do well for you with high humidity. Mme Knorr is listed as a Portland and they do well for me although some BS is inevitable. Sorry I don't know about the Tea. Is it on HelpMeFind?

I think you'll find there's a line of us waiting to be fitted for our straight jackets!

Oh, duh, I thought the P was for polyantha. I never think of portlands since they are roses non grata here. That explains the size of the flower, doesn't it? I didn't pay attention to the class on HMF - was mesmerized by the gorgeous flower.

Enabling is sooooo true. I bought gertrude jeckyll, abraham darby, happy child, crown princ margaretta, ebb tide, golden celebration,ambridge and portlandia from heirloom roses and was surfing about trying to find more information on roses that can handle a shadier area.... when I found your post.... I live close to wrightwood in california. On the sunny side of the same mountain. Nice weather here. 1 hour from euro desert roses so I looked and looked and looked.. logged back on and re looked... why did I see that post...
I ended up ordering lady overtoun, souv of wooton, surpassing beauty of woolverstone, gipsey boy, louise odier maybe I ordered that from heirloom... marie dermar, daniel and asta von parpart.... argh..
Hope I love them as much as I hope I will....
Fragrance and charm is a goal of my garden.

I saw the email from EuroDesert and even though I had just received an order, I just had to order 5 more that were on my wish list.
About the order I just received: They arrive in perfect shape with still moist soil. In spite of the cross-country trip the roses came out of the box as if they had just been put in there that morning.

Too answer the humidity question and Polys. I have had Leonie Lamesch and 3 other Polys in my garden for about 3 yrs now and I do not spray them. Little to no BS and they do well in humidity. I live about 10 miles from the Atlantic and Chesapeake Bay so it does get real humid here.

Well the addiction continues. Just a tad late placed my order this morning. Terry Jean, I too ordered Gilbert Becaud. If its blooms turn out half a well as the pic i"ll be truly pleased.
My better half loves red roses so I added a few for him. He sure helps dig the holes...Daniel, Trojan Victory, Gipsy Boy, Epoca. I also tried to pic the reds that sound somewhat masculine. He'll get a kick out of the signs in front of them.

I just received my order of 20 roses from Cliff today! Couldn't help myself. An early Birthday present I said to my enabling husband. I grow Petite Francois in a concrete urn 20" long x 15" wide. It is a mannerly polyantha and prolific bloomer. I also grow Babtiste Lafaye but still in his 3 gallon pot.

Thanks for the info on Petite Francois. I wanted to grow it in a container so that helps. 20 roses! What a haul. Have fun Rosefairy.
