Just because you didn't use herbicides it doesn't mean that there wasn't "drift" from a neighbor's treatment. How heavily did your lawn get fed? This early in the season the scorch looks like too much turf fertilizer OR quite possibly herbicide damage to me.

hortster- we live in a rural setting, may neighbors are NOT close so no chance of 'drift'. We did NOT fertilze the yard and we did NOT SPRAY herbicide....we did use a GRANULAR post emergent on the yard....that's it. Hmmmm

I have two pin oaks and one has gotten some type of leaf fungal disease for several years now. Unless the disease defoliates the tree three years in a row, there is nothing to worry about. For example, I have about 8 large Sycamore trees around my borders at woodedge and they all have a terrible leaf disease. Most likely, some type of Anthracnose, which pathogen causes it makes little difference. Of course, if it is a smaller tree that is not yet well established, then some type of treatment should be considered.

Are the leaves at the the top showing the signs most? If so I may think you have Oak wilt occurring which will kill the tree, outright. I'm not diagnosing, but that sure seems like Oak wilt to me. Do the cut branches reveal brown streaks?

That could be herbicide damage, but there is far, far too little information to diagnose this issue. Could be freeze. Could be Bacterial Leaf Scorch. But not enough info. All over the tree? Just in one spot? How big is plant? Other trees in area? More pix would be helpful.
