Grow Quest aka abp nursery -- Really That Bad??

Is this nursery really that horrible??? I need a rose tree & they have a HUGE variety showing available on their website. Has anyone actually had good experiences with them?

Um, have you read the comments on Garden Watchdog? I sometimes read about the bad nurseries for fun (um, yeah, well) and that is one of the most interesting. I'd never order from any place with that many negatives, some from early this year.

"Available" for Growquest means they take your money and you don't get the rose.

Chris Gilchrist is under investigation for fraud and is still in business... Go figure!

Good grief- are they really still doing business?

LOL. I cannot believe this man is not in an OJ by now.

I understand Chris Gilchrist had personal family problems. I ordered from them some Crimson Glory rose bushes that are hard to find commercially and got them in good condition, although delayed due to the problems.

Yes they really are. I wish I had seen the feedback before I ordered on July 1, 2007. They showed two roses that I couldn't find anywhere else. After a month of me sending numerous follow up e-mails and leaving many phone messages (I got a few responses saying my order was in processing) I finally asked for a refund but they never responded. I filed a claim with my American Express card to get a refund and now as of 9/1 - two months after I placed my order I have still not heard from ABP and I'm waiting for AMEX to settle my claim - good thing it was only $40.00

Chris is in the process of writing a book after seeing how well OJ's is doing. I hear the working title is "If I Actually had Roses To Sell".

I read the comments, thought maybe they were getting unfairly treated. Talked personally to 3 members of the staff - who were all really nice people. Then began the long long wait. This was followed up by many more calls emails, you name it. I was never rude or angry. I just wanted to know if they were going to send anything. Months later, they issued a refund. I would have really liked to get plants instead. Too bad, I hope they can one day be the nursery they present themselves to be.

Kitty, a lot of people have been waiting a very long time for "one day". I'll get a pony for Christmas before that happens, I'm afraid. There are too many other vendors out there who do outstanding work to spend any time with those who don't.

That was the best laugh I have had all week!!!!

Thanks Ronda! That comes from someone still waiting for roses ordered and purchased in 2004.

I ordered several avocados from ABP in November of 2006, I am still waiting for the trees... Does anyone know how to or who to report this guy to ??? I have received some dandy excuses, but I wanted trees!

McGleason, thank you for the good laugh!

If you have extra money to throw away, give it to a good charity instead of ordering tons of frustration from GrowQuest. You would do some good and feel good while saving at least the cost of a shrink who would be needed to tame your anger.

I cannot believe that this company is still allowed to do business!

It is April 2009, and I ordered 2 roses from Grow Quest in September 2008. I ordered from them rather than Jackson and Perkins because they would ship sooner. Well - I never received anything. I made more than a dozen calls, and an equal or greater number of emails and still nothing. I did get hold of them a few times with promises to ship, but nothing ever arrived. I finally filed a dispute with my credit card company and received a refund. I have since ordered through Jackson and Perkins and was able to get more roses for less money, and the shipping charge was cheaper! Live and learn...
By the way, Grow Quest also does business as Surf and Sierra so avoid them too.

I ordered a dwarf orange tree from them on 4/29/09. It is now 6/9/09 and I still have nothing even though I have left numerous voicemails and sent many emails. I decided I wasn't going to let it drag on any longer and I contacted my credit card company to dispute the purchase. The credit card company gave me a full credit and will then seek retribution through Growquests bank.

yes - the only company that has cheated me over the internet in decades

Can I just tell you how terrible Chris is... I bought a Buddha hand. He called me EVERYTHING but a child of nature. Accused me trying to skirt around his policies... says he has three other locations but will not ship from them. Tried to turn me in to the USDA... I am not a nursery... just little old me. Told me I would have the three in 48 hours TWICE! Will not issue a refund and told me to take it up with my CC company. This has got to be illegal. Someone needs to shut him down. THIEF!
