If no concern of height, or proximity to house, many shade trees to consider! I replaced my beast silver maple with a Quercus macrocarpa (Burr oak), doing fine, drought resistant once established. Are you zone 5? Other oaks, red, pin, shingle, the whites. Other maples - red 'October Glory' for dependable color, Sugar Maple, Sassafras, Zelkova (keep up with pruning when young)

Dawn Redwood is pretty unusual and cool, if you want something different. Grows fast. Bald Cypress would be another similar choice.

Kentucky coffee tree (Gymnocladus dioicus) is an interesting one - but while young it will look "dead" in the winter because of its branch form - it has no fine branches because it has large double-compound leaves.

Horsechesnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) or ohio buckeye (Aesculus glabra) are nice trees, beautiful flowers in the spring, lovely palmate leaves, and neat spikey husks on the nuts.

Northern catalpa (Catalpa speciosa) is another pretty tree when it flowers, it has large heart shaped leaves and long pods in the fall.
