How is the baseboard trim constructed?

It looks like there's wood that sits flush with the drywall and something breaking the space between?

Is there a closeup anywhere?

unfortunately the pictures on here are what we have, but you are correct in that the two materials are flush but there is a small (~3/8") reveal between the two creating the look.
