Landscaping fabric under perennials?

I just got a bunch of perennials (coreopsis, shasta daisy, purple coneflower, St. John's wort) and I'm going to plant them around a newly completed swimming pool. The main goal of all of the plants is beauty followed closely by low maintenance. I was thinking about putting down landscaping fabric and then cutting holes in the fabric to plant the plants. The idea, of couuse, is to limit or eliminate the weeds. I was worried though that these plants might not spread because of the landscaping fabric.

What should I do?

    NO .. NEVER... WASTE OF EFFORT... WASTE OF MONEY .... TOTAL COMPLETE WASTE OF EVERYTHING ...

    i will make it simple.. a vast majority of weed seed is AIRBORNE ..... as well as soil .... ergo .. ibso presto ... what good will the fabric do ...

    as soon as you cover it with a mulch.. weed seed will accumulate above.. sprout.. grow ... AND BE IMPOSSIBLE to pull out because of the fabric ...

    just put down and maintain a nice layer of mulch .. and spend the little time it will take every month or so.. to pull out the weeds ...

    there is only one way to avoid puling weeds ... HIRE SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU ... lol
