A very interesting rose that isn't seen or discussed much. Rosa moyesii 'Geranium'. It's planted in a horrible place, where the local DOT clears it out every few years.

Baltimore Belle blooms near the end of the main season flush. I'm growing it on a split rail fence, and it can get quite large.

My favorite Old Garden Rose is SOUVENIR DE LA MALMAISON a pale pink Bourbon hybridized by Jean Béluze in France, 1843.

So far i have felicite parmentier and mmm legras de st. Germain coming in spring from palatine. Wanted princesse de lamballe but they sold out. Also have great maidens blush,suaveolens,comte de chambord hopefully coming from pickering. Waiting on confirmation email.

Some things there I wish I could grow, out here in La-La Land. Beautiful things.

Rosa Rugosa followed by Souv. de la Malmaison.

'Green Mantle' was the first rose to bring shrub roses and OGRs to my attention, but Father Hugo's rose was the first one I bought. Over the course of the last 23 years it has gotten huge with a spectacular display only to die back to a few canes and then grow huge again. Every time it dies back I get worried and give it a little extra attention but it eventually rebuilds itself again. It is certainly one of my favorites.

That 'Double White' is so pretty, campanula. I wonder if it is only available in England. I didn't see it listed at HMF. I love the back of the flower and the stems and buds. It really does look perfect.

Though I cannot grow it, my dream rose is 'Königin von Dänemark.'

madgallica, your yellow rose reminded me that when we moved here, there was a HarrisonâÂÂs Yellow under a Maple tree that I was surprised bloomed every year. I wish I knew then that it was a good old rose and that we still had it. I can just imagine how nice it would have been growing in sun without tree roots.

Your second photo reminds me of summers in Maine. Just picture perfect! I can see the very pretty color of your Bishop rose. I would love to see a close up of that if you had it. I saw it offered on Pickerings site, but it didnâÂÂt look like that.

Baltimore Belle is very pretty too. I love all that white. Is it fragrant?

Years ago, when there were more northerners on the forum, "How do I prune Harison's Yellow?" was a FAQ. Unless you give it a lot of space in full sun, it is a very awkward, gangly shrub. The early yellows make much better plants IMHO.

The 'real' The Bishop is supposed to be a proliferator. Mine definitely has that problem. When they are good, they are very, very good, but when they are bad, they are horrid. I moved a piece this fall to the vegetable garden, and will yank the big one once I know the baby is established.

I didn't think Baltimore Belle had fragrance until I took it to a garden meeting along with some other 'samples'. When they were passed around, that one got a lot of 'ooh's and 'aahs', and 'you've got to smell this one'. Odd because usually the stinkiest thing I bring is R. eglanteria.

Yes, that seems to be something I'm going to have to be careful of with the Old Garden roses, is how large some of them can get and the suckering especially. I'm glad I have the winter to research it.
