I'm Late! I'm Late! I'm Late!

Anyone else wanna grab an oar and row in my boat? I just BARELY got some toms out this past weekend (on schedule, but the TomatoFest.com order just shipped yesterday that I placed on Saturday...then I went out and bought some tom seeds cuz I just couldn't be off schedule that badly when they finally arrive)

My zinnias aren't WS yet, nor are a LOT of my other annuals and veggies.

My container stash is dwindling to a pathetic level- hopefully I'll have enough to finish.

Starbucks let me down and tossed out all the containers they were saving for me for our Earth-Day project today because I didn't get there at 5pm yesterday to pick them up (I was there at noon, but didn't get there again at 5pm...was there before 8am today, and in previous years, they've always saved them for me, knowing I WILL be there to get them...I think they had a change in mgmt, since one of the gals that's been there for the past couple years knew me, knew my routine, and actually called him a 'jerk' for tossing them out on me).

Anyway, I'm feeling completely behind already, and it's only 3rd week in April.

Must rectify this sitch-ee-ation.

Naw you are not late Spring is a lil early that's all...

My zinnia are still in my seed box. I have no potting mix left so time to shop.

Plus none of my veggies like squash have been sown yet either. I did 2 containers of tomatoes last night with the last bit of mg potting mix.

It is never too late. Sow what you can, it is supposed to be fun right?

I still feel like I'm behind, though.
Probably mostly because I SERIOUSLY cut back on my container count this year. I might have 40-50 perennials out there, and another 24 maybe in other stuff. My usual count is somewhere between 200-400+

I want to do a sale, but iffy on whether or not to do it; people are finicky...I did "ok" last year, but ignorant people snubbed their noses at the small (but full) containers of seedlings (3.50 per jug with up to hundreds of seedlings in it). Ok, so what should I do then? Have my sale in July when everyone's nursery plants are starting to fail miserably? Should I charge 10x as much in July as I would have in May/June in the seedling stage and charge them 3.50 for ONE rud or ONE petunia? (rolleyes). I really don't WANT to babysit containers until July...it's bad enough that I might not get all of my OWN planted out by then, but to have to make SURE that containers don't die...well, mid-July I'm off on other ventures...and when they're MINE..."I'll get to it, or I won't" and either way works.

My veggie patch is still under construction (I build borderless raised beds); my onions will be here any day now...

I feel like having ordered my toms so late that even a week in April is a lot of wasted germination time.

I have mosaic projects not started or finished that I've committed myself to (another forum)...I just feel like I'm not getting anything done and time's a wastin'

Maybe I'm just usually "early" and have everything out by now and this "lateness" that I'm feeling really isn't at all.

    Your not late its
    A
    container withdrawal and
    B) other stuff keeping you from containers causing the WD.

People really are not educated about what makes a good plant to transplant they have been "taught" by the fully grown beauty queen plants that HD sells.
In a few years I hope to have the system down so i can offer only 2nd yr perennials.. but for now I am selling the 1st yr ones. And I am planing on making signs to tell ppl WHY they should buy these from me NOW . WIll it work IDK..but I aim to try.

I did a TON of spring and summer sowing last yr post plant sale. I managed to over winter quite a bit really..about 60% of it made it. of the other 40 I think I sowed the wrong things THINKING it was a zone 5 perennial..but it was not and that leaves 20 % death rate. 15 of that being the blasted Delps that are a bugger for me no matter HOW I start em. So do a sale next yr. Sow the Ruds and Delphs and other hardy perennials. Sow natives and do a sale NEXT yr. having had a yr to plot out my sale has helped me learn a LOT. And I can see its going to be a few more yrs of learning to get a good tight system that will make the Hospital kids some good dough with out driving me NUTS with worry.

Tina, I sowed my tomatoes (second round) at least a couple of weeks ago and only have 1 sprout. The tomatoes I sowed several weeks ago only have about 3 sprouts, and two others died. I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong to them or if the TomatoFest seeds aren't up to snuff. Hopefully I'm just early, but with all the warm temps I supposed I would have something by now. Maybe I'm still just too used to Georgia weather and timing.

Two of the sprouts in my first round of jugs actually got pinched off at the top before they died. I know if a seedling gets pinched near the base it is an excessive moisture problem, but I've never seen one pinched near the top. I sure hope time will tell a successful story for me, 'cause I'm a-gettin' worried.

I haven't sown a thing this season. I do have some
jugs to sow some tomatoes & peppers, but that is all
I am doing this year. Last year was so successful, that
I had tons of flowers and millions of reseeders.

    Larkspur
    love in a mist
    bachelor buttons
    black eyed susans....
the list goes on & on!

Lots of perennials came back too.
I actually had to till under some larkspur
to make room for some other plants that I need
    to get in the ground.
Happy to say my Monarda lived! yay! They should
    bloom this year.

So for me, it is just veggie seeds this year. And expand
the kitty litter box under the tree....oops, I mean
the succulant bed under the tree ;-D

    Swoosh!

LOL! I'm so glad you kept the faith, Tammy! Can't wait to see pix later in the season.

Last Friday I stopped at Lowes and Home Depot and saw all their plants were out. Huge baskets of petunias and impatiens, ferns, specialty annuals for summer pots and veggies.

Makes me feel that I am very late also but rationally I know that they are very early. Spring is 2-3 weeks advanced here.

Will sow a few more annuals tomorrow and Wednesday.
