What I'm done sowing-and what I'm waiting on

Poppies - I've still got poppies growing in their containers, which I'll give to someone. I'm discouraged with the poppies in my garden. Some of them never took, the ones that I let grow a little bigger in the container, did take, but everything is growing SO slowly. Must be the weather. Or my impatience.

Cal poppies. I finally gave up one one bunch, which I had planted out by HOS, they never took. Another bunch, which I planted out by cutting open the container, and planting it in one piece, they are doing great.

The ones which re-seeded from last year are already blooming! YEA!

Castor bean is coming up in the container, I'll just plant a couple of those and give some away.

I sowed a lot of 4 o'clocks, cuz I had the seeds, and cuz I promised some to some people. They are kinda iffy in germinating.

The only ones left I'm really excited to germinate are the hyacinth bean, which someone on another forum was kind enough to send my some seeds. They are starting to show themselves. I have one area which is all vines - morning glory, cypress vine, scarlet runner bean (that one is bought not sowed), and hyacinth. Also in that place - sweet peas.

I'm going to plant Amaranth once again! lol

They look great in the container - when I put them out they get eaten. But I've let them get bigger, that may help protect them, and I'll try to remember to spray them with some detergent water as a preventative.

Yesterday I planted out some nice looking gallardia. The ones I planted about a month ago are STILL not doing anything. -

Is it me - or are things most slow this year?

Well that is some of my successes and not so successful, what about you?

I'm still waiting on a lot of stuff. But I'm quite a ways farther north and we are several weeks behind usual temp wise.
So today, I finally went topless on a few containers that had sprouts growing out the tops :)
I am very happy with my results so far. I've had a few single hollyhock sprouts, lots of red poppies and several sweet peas. All of which were from very old seed (8+ years old).
I messed up marking my annual ws containers though. Marked them with numbers right on the jug with sharpie and the numbers have all faded. Woops! Oh well, at least they are all annuals so I'll just use them to fill in wherever in my perennial beds anyways. Live and learn.
Sharpie on the duct tape seemed to work pretty well for my perennial containers. Only have one of 80 that the duct tape has fallen off. I'm sure once I start moving some things around I'll find that label too :)

I think I have about 30-40% germination rate so far. It's been a rather cool spring here so I'm still optomistic I'll get a lot more sprouts over the coming weeks. I haven't planted anything out yet, still cleaning up the gardens and mulching. Since it has been so cool I'm not in a big hurry yet either. I've always got gobbs of potted plants waiting for a home up by my greenhouse anyways :)

I removed the tops on Saturday when we had 84 degrees temps but replaced the ones on my annuals last night as the temps dropped. The frost warning was for further north but we sometimes are surprised here in Maple Grove. Also helped to protect them from the heavy rain that came Sunday afternoon. Most of the annuals are just starting to germinate.

Germination is 34% so far. Hope to plant out poppies later today. Also still cleaning up and making new beds.
