Ginkgo biloba: how to spot male/ female plants?

linaria_gw

Hi there,
At work we plan a nice big park with an arboretum. And 3 Ginkgos are planned as a group. When talking to a nursery guy about male and female plants he kind of remembered that specimen grown from seed would start unfurling their foliage at different times depending upon their sex. Only he could'nt remember which were the earlier ones.

So just out of curiosity, could some of you confirm this or is this rather another gardeneing myth?

And we will have those Ginkgos anyway.

Thanks a lot for some input,
Bye, Lin
