Parwal: How to tell if male or female

xman

Hello,

I have a few parwal plants that are a couple of months old, is there anyway to tell which is male or female? or do I have to wait till they flower?

    harsha,

I have tried this technique for ivy gourd (tindora?) many, many times, and have never been successful to grow this from seed.

Will work with snake gourd if you are able to get a mature snake gourd from the store. Many times the gourds you buy are mature enough to just sprout if you plant the seeds, no special treatment needed. You can buy snake gourd online easily too.

    regards,

Ivy gourd when i see it online i am just not sure if the breed is going to be the same as the one we get Indian store and hence i thought about trying this technique. I had tried ripening it and put it in a bowl to dry but I forgot about it. The seeds where stuck to the bowl and i could not remove it without damaging it. I guess i would need to try it again as I dont know anyone in my area from whom i can get a cutting for ivy gourd.

Snake Guard may be next spring i will try using the seeds from the store brought veggie.

I think the idea of a crisp white foyer and the black accents will be stunning. See picture below. POLL: How do we feel about purple?

    Q

    Comments (56)
I have notice that purple seems to be a colour with which both females and males ( married) are comfortable. I have seen purple sofa set in married couples living rooms, on tv settings for a show, but I think a large majority of bachelors might not go for that colour if buying alone , the ladies probably would, I personally love the colour but not so much that it will dominate a room, otherwise, it demands, a careful consideration of other furnishing to match it.

You will have to get Ivy gourd cuttings or roots from somebody on this forum, that is your best bet. I have had success with kantola, parwal, and others using the above technique, but always failed to sprout even a single ivy gourd. Maybe you will have better luck. Check the Indian stores in spring, a lot of them carry ivy gourd plants for sale, at least they do in TX.

I have not even seen curry plant in Kansas city Indian stores :(

I doubt it they would have ivy gourd plant.

thulasi plant will not grow from cuttings, only seeds, I have plenty just sprinkle the seeds on soil, then lightly sprinkle soil on top of the seeds so they don't get washed off, germinates in 3-4 days.

I would also like to know how everyone and you have been protecting the tubers / roots of Parval ? My parval came back on its own in Dallas and i had not protected it at all but i want to do something for Kantola plant.

    Kathy,

    Hi Jigar,i

I live in Midwest I take several cuttings slightly woody branches about 18 inches long and dig out the tubers and save the tubers in a pot full of soil , stick the cuttings in the same soil about 1/3 the length into the soil and leave it in my basement until spring. I did this 3 weeks ago and already see tiny new shoots, if they grow they will be weak and limpy, I pinch of the branches. it will not hurt the growth.

Hi fellow gardeners.. this is Amit Parmar. I am trying tindora, parval and kantola since 3 yrs. Only last year they successfully germinated. But flowers didn't fruit as all female plants. Didn't realize to save tubers till it was too late. I live in Columbus, Ohio. I can pay if someone can send me tubers/cuttings of male and female plants.

My id is amithparmar@gmail.com. thank you in advance.
