I have a bed right under my dining room window, and I was thinking of what to put there next year (Hah, I'm not even done planting out and already planning what to sow next year!) Anyway, I was thinking that since I often have the windows open in the dining room from spring to early summer, I'd like to plant something there with a nice strong scent that will waft into the window.

Will stocks fit the bill? Is their scent strong enough to rise up 5 feet and into the window? Is it even a nice scent? Will they flower early enough (before July comes and it gets so hot that I turn on the air conditioning and close those windows)? Is there something else you've winter sown with a nice strong scent that might flower sooner? On the other hand, are stocks a pretty enough flower that I could plant it elsewhere, and get the benefit of the nice scent when I'm outside working in the garden?
