An annual Dianthus that just won't quit!

I WS'd this Corona Cherry Magic in '06 and it bloomed the first year and every year since. This is its 4th year and it's putting on a great show, the blossoms are about 2 1/4" across again, but now there are masses of them. This is just one plant, it makes me smile!

Wow! You know I like your flower when I stop reading at the pic and start searching the internet for the seed!

I have fallen in love with dianthus this season. Last year it was poppies (who have turned out to be hard to stay committed to as the keep going face down in the rain). Dianthus I ws 'd last season is going strong and very pretty. Many annuals reseeded. Actually: question...this dianthus at your house is sold as an annual. Do you think it is wintering over or reseeding?

Oh, that is pretty. I have the same question as Nancy. Is that the same plant you originally WSed in '06, or is it reseeding in the same spsot? I also want to know what is the purple-leaved plant next to it?

that is just gorgeous and like the others I want to get some seed - do you remember where you got the original seed?? - I just love dianthus - for me it blooms sporadically all year even in Jan and Feb with the biggest show in the early spring thru June - great reliable plant and TIDY......

Nan, this is the same plant, not re-seeded, it has only produced a few seeds in the past which I have gathered.

Dawiff, the purple plant is a purchased sweet potato vine, I am surprised that the leaves are not larger and it is shorter than I expected. I got it from a local nursery and she did not specify the variety name.

Lynne, I originally got the seed from Pinetree Seeds, also known as Superseeds.

When I google the name it is listed as an annual. I find it very confusing, it behaves like a perennial, but I'm certainly not going to complain about that!

PS...it remains green long after the first frost and long into the winter you can still see traces of it. It comes up early in the spring. It lives in at the edge of a half-barrel with an unprotected northern exposure, and it is not mulched.
