Way way OT... but no one reads the conversations..

Hi all my fellow WSer's,

My hubby and I need some prayer. Now if you are not the praying type I apologize.

The big guy upstairs needs to hear from you on my Husband Jeff's behalf.

He has Ulcerative colitis/chrons IBS for 17 years and he has held on long enough.

It is time for surgery to remove the diseased portion of his colon. This will leave him with an ileostomy.

Over the years we have tried just about everything from diet to new doctors that offer some hope.

We are done, he needs his life back.

So...

tomorrow we are meeting the surgeon at Sloan Kettering(no he does not have cancer). He is very anxious.

Please pray for him to be calm. For the surgeon to be personable.. they often are not, and for a smooth appointment.

Thanks all I will update you when the surgery is scheduled,

OOps pray for me too.. I will need to get in and out of NY myself something that makes me very anxious.

Andrea

My prayers for both of you - surgery is so scary because you have to place control in someone else's hands - but it is a good thing there are hands trained in our world to perform the "out with the bad", so we can get in with the good!

And for you, too - I know the thing with directions, and especially the idea of getting lost in a big city (my family almost fainted the first time I told them I was driving into NY). I believe that if you have to do this - and it certainly seems like you do - that you will have the necessary protection from guiding spirits.

    Best wishes to you both!

My prayers are especially for you, lovely and your husband during this hard time.

I wish you both good luck and some wonderful times together after the surgery. He is lucky to have you with him and supporting him all the way.

    Good luck

Andrea, prayers on the way from the Heartland. First for courage and calm and hope, next for clear understanding and acceptance and hope, next for healing and moving forward and hope. Peace be with you!

Lovely, Think positive & don't dwell on what "could" happen. Most of the time it doesn't happen. That's what our angels are for! My thoughts are with you both.

I sense your frustrations and anxieties and will be thinking of you and praying for you. Please keep us posted as you are both in all of our hearts.

I have a brother and a sister with crohn's. Both have had major surgeries and have been living with colostomies (sp?) for quite some time now, but at least they now have a life.

Again, my thoughts are with you. Big HUGS!

    I'm praying for you both.

Andrea, of course prayers went your way as soon as I saw this.

We have a good friend who suffered like your DH for almost as many years....he is so much happier and healthier since having the surgery. Like you said, life comes back. K can hunt, fish, play with his grandchildren, do all the things that were often hard for him before. And to be rid of the mans sized fist full of medications he took every day! Truly, it's an easier life.

I hope you approved of the surgeon. The way I feel about surgeons - they don't have to make you warm and fuzzy, they just need to give you that sense of confidence that you're putting yourself in the best hands. Friendly is good, skilled is better

Let us know how it went!

    Hi Andrea,

Best wishes and prayers to you and your family!

I'm not sure if it's too late if you're preparing for surgery tomorrow, but I work at a blood center that is participating in a clinical trial for people with moderate to severe Chron's disease. You may want to look into this if you haven't heard of it all ready. I'm not sure of all the requirements for enrollment in the study, so I'm not sure if it's applicable to your husband. You or your doctors and the study group would I'm sure have more information. Please note that the website says that the Phase II clinical trial enrollment is complete, but we're currently participating in the Phase III since the Phase II was successful so I know that it is currently an option for eligible patients...I'm a firm believer in having lots of information & options so I thought I'd pass it along in case it's useful to you. (I'm not directly related to the study group, my lab just thaws & tests the cell products to prepare them for infusion)

Andrea, you and your dh will be in my thoughts. I have lived with Crohn's for over 45 years and, as you know, it is NO picnic! I hope your husband's recovery will be quick and complete and that his life will be altogether improved.

    Andrea,
Prayers going up here too. May you be comforted and lifted up, with healing for him and peace for you both.

Our pre surgical consult went well. Surgery is scheduled for Sept 6.

On the way out of the office we had a conversation with two women . They were seeing the same surgeon as we did. They said when the went to make the appointment they were told it would be 6 months before he would see them.
We saw him in 6 days.
Well the first part is over.. thanks for all you prayers it was reassuring to know you all were out there.

    Cherry,

Glad to know the first visit went well and that DH was seen in very little time to ease your concerns a bit. We will be thinking about you both and praying for September 6th to come and go quickly with good results!
    Nicole.
