Look what I almost gave away!!

I've had this plant for almost a year and it has done nothing but cut me with the little thorns on the blades until now! I almost gave it back to be sold as an unknown bromeliad at a garden club plant sale! I believe we have identified it as a Billbergia brachysiphon, correct me if I'm wrong!

what bizarre flowers! They're cool! Dannab, is the blue color on the flowers accurate or is it really more of a purple?

They are more blue, they aren't quite as dark blue as the picture appears but definitely more blue than purple.
