My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
I bought it in april with a surprise bud in it, so it's not really my own acomplishment. The one on the right I have about a year, both of em have a pup. The one on the right looks like I gave it a bit too much fertilizer.
Where do you keep them Japie? Somehow I am a bit reluctant to take this one ouside..
Sander, I have 2 clumps. One is mounted on the trunk of a tree fern that is growing over my Koi pond. The other one, is just one pup that I attached to dead tree stump in about August last year. There was a small little hole in the wood, so I just pushed the pup in there. After about 2 months, I could see some roots climbing out of the hole and shortly after, 2 pups followed.
When I tried to grow it in a pot or planted in the soil, it nearly died every winter. But since it's mounted, it does very well. I am holding thumbs for a flower this summer since your one is flowering now! {{gwi:471756}} {{gwi:471759}}
I have had no problems with rooting. When I repotted the old one to put it in this pot is has formed some roots. It was mounted when I got it. The newer one was in a pot when I got it.
The new one in flower came from a heated greenhouse so it's clock may be off. The plants and pups are about the same size so I guess they are the same age. So I am not sure that it is normal Vriesea flowering time over here. I have an Amoena from that same greenhouse in bud right now, also some Neo's that came from there, are at it 6 months earlier than my other neos.
Since they look happy to me and Japie has had trouble keeping them alive in winter I decided to keep them where they are for now. Indoors at a nice constant temperature and no rain. Japie, do yours get much sun?
Here'a pic of the side that gets the most sun and has the pups. A bit hard to make out the pups due to camouflage. (Or is that glam-o-flage?) {{gwi:471761}}
That's a great photo of the flower spike Sander. Guttata is a poplar plant here, and seems to grow equally well as an epiphyte, or potted. They do look stunning when grown in a hanging basket, and allowed to form a large clump. I've found that the spotting stands out if the plants are grown in high light, & not fed too much.
Here's a scanned photo of one I had in flower a while back.
