I believe in the days of yonder, they used to boil the tuberous roots of Asclepias tuberosa, as it was believed to be a cure for lung problems, such as pleurisy. I don't think I would try that now. One of its common names is Pleurisy Root.

Im pretty sure it depends what kind of milkweed you have. I know tropical milkweed is poisonous (asclepias currasivica) but I dont know about the others. Maybe you should call your doctor and maybe they can gice you some type of medecine to stop it. You can eat the shoots, but theyd have to be cooked. I never tried, and wouldnt recomend it.

Did you take some Benadryl? It appears to me that you are having an allergic reaction. It may or may not be the Milkweed.

I've found, just recently, that I have an odd reaction to Cheeseweed (Malva sylvestri). If I rub up next to it (my arms, that it) while collecting leaves, I get QUITE itchy! Yet, I can be next to other Malva plants and not have any problems. I always keep Benadryl on hand as it is an antihistamine that I've found to work for me. I started keeping it in my purse because my 2nd Shih Tzu had all sorts of allergies and the emergency room treatments consisted of...BENADRYL! At $90 a pop at the vet is way more expensive than the box of the little pink pills I get at Target. ;P

The latex/sap from Milkweed is quite dangerous if you get it in your eye. Trust me. I have had it happen thrice. It is MOST unpleasant and takes time to heal.
