Wandering BST cats -- help!

Hello all,

I recently brought in some BST cats from a dill plant in my garden. One was a first instar, the other was an egg that hatched about a day after I brought them in.

I brought them in on cuttings from the plant where they hatched, and put the plant in water with foil over the top so they won't fall in.

The trouble is, they're wandering. This afternoon they were both off the plant. Tonight the larger one is again.

I raised two BSTs last fall on parsley, and they never left the plant until they were ready to pupate -- they were too busy eating! But they were bigger, maybe 3rd instar, when I brought them in. Is it normal for these guys to go AWOL? Could they be looking for a different kind of food? Should I put some parsley in there for them? I'm afraid they will starve if they're off the plant too long.

I've been using toothpicks to put them back in the plants (thank you to whoever wrote the FAQs!). Any other advice?

TIA!

Amy
