where to find Plant Labels (Tags)

I cut up old window blind slats for Pot Markers, but I would like to buy some plastic plant tags that you can put around the stem of the plant. The pot markers have a tendency to "get lost"!! And I don't want to end up with a collection of NOIDS. Anyone know where to buy these? Have searched: E-bay, Harris seed, Burpee seed Gurney, Henry Fields. Don't know where to else to look. None of my local nurseries carry them. TIA Gloria

I'm the wrong one to answer this because I'm the queen of lost labels thanks in part to Kyle but I do a good job of losing them on my own as well. I find that writing directly on the stem is also helpful but you need to rewrite periodically because it will fade.

    Gloria,
My cuttings from Chena came labeled with the orange plastic ribbon tied arount them with the name written on. I don't know where to buy it, but you can sometimes sii it ties around trees/etc.. to mark a property line or something?

gee8ch, ya know these can come off too? Why not punch a hole in the tag you have and use twisty ties loosely to that you give them room to breath. I got the metal tags to put in the pots but as fast as they come and go I've started using them in the yard to mark perennials that have
    lasted years.
We trip over to our local supplier for these and the plastic ones.

Hi Mike: Those are exactly what I had in mind. Will see if they come wider than 1/2 inch. Thanks. Gloria

Since starting and growing so many different plants I have started using Paw Paws Everlasting Labels. They are metal and come in all sizes and the ones I use have the little legs on them to push down into the ground to mark your plants.

I will have to say that my iris beds and daylily beds look more like a business area, than a personal flowerbed. All of them are in rows of 5 with each row over 100ft long. I have 5 different sections, with each having 5 rows in them.
They each have a metal label with their name, the name of either the company or person I got then from, and the date if possible. I will say it looks pretty neat at night when the moon light is beaming down and reflecting on the signs.

They are a little pricey but they are well worth it.The best part about these labels/plant markers is that you can read whatever is on them without having to bend over and so forth. The people at Paw Paws are also very nice.

I will say that a couple of people complained about the sign sliding down the legs sometimes. I must say that is caused by not spreading the legs out before pressing them into the ground. They can't slide down if the legs are spread out. I personally use nothing but the rose markers.

May not be able to purchase any more since I'm no longer employed. Ya'll pray for me to be able to find another job. They are hard to come by out here in the country. I'm a little depressed at this time. I still had several orders of daylilies and things I need to finish paying off. I can't use our Social Security money for that. (frown) I'm beside myself.

Mike: Thanks for the link. I like the bigger size tags for the Brugs. Thinking of ordering the Bat flower seeds. Know anything about this plant? Gloria

Labels, we don't need no steenking labels. I write the name on plastic tie wrap AND I write the name in permanent marker on the plant in several places that will remain easy to see (like the bottom of the trunk).

Gloria I don't think I'd bother with Tacca (bat flower)seeds, just find a plant. The seeds take 3 months to a year to germinate and they don't have the greatest germination rate. They also need bottom heat. Mine had finally sprouted after about 6 months and I lost them soon after. That just pissed me off. I do think it's a cool looking flower, black & white varieties, but I'll buy a plant if I do decide I need one.

Many thanks, Karyn for the advice. Not the sort of thing I had in mind for seed growing!! Interesting looking plant, so will wait to get a growing plant istead of seeds.
Linda: Most of my Brugs are VERY young with slender green stems ... can't really call them trunks, yet ;0) So I've not been successful in writing on the Brug itself. Last year, one of the sellers included some free blank slip-on tags and they are working great for me. That's why I'd like to get more for the rest of the Brugs before the cats, raccoons, and skunks begin digging and playing with the pot stick labels and I get everything mixed up!!! As you can see, in my heart I am organized, but in reality my life is not a pretty thing!!! lol Gloria

I find the mini blinds very versatile. I cut them up as desired for stick-it-in-the-dirt plant labels. You can cut some of them in such a fashion that the existing holes where the strings run thru can be used for tying the name tag on a branch ... use the string/cord from the blinds or a heavier string/twine if desired. Another option...buy a handheld single-punch hole punch & make your own (larger) hole for greater versatility.

At the Dollar store you can usually find plastic ties if you prefer not to use string/twine. I also make small tags that I hang next to pollinated blooms to ID the pollen parent & date of pollination. I write on them with a soft art pencil & have no problems with fading or wash-off. Extra frugal? You can erase the tags and reuse them.

LOL patrick888, isn't that what I recommended? I hate to say this but once you step into the business end or want to look professional one should invest in tags in the metal or heavy duty plastic?? When you have folks walking in your yard it sure makes for a better appearance with something other than blinds stuck in the ground or flapping in the breeze??
