I can never remember the botanical names so I can't help you there. However, I have the same plant ad your second picture. I repotted it in a huge glazed container and it's in full sun. The flowers only open later at night and usually only once or twice so go out at night to see this amazing display. I have included a picture. Good luck!

It's a "night-blooming cereus." I'm sure one of the experts can narrow it down.

Missing the obvious - is "night-blooming" cereus the 2nd pic?

chicagardens, lcadena's and yours both look like photos I've seen of night-blooming cereus. However, there are many different plants which are called that, and I am not anywhere near knowledgeable enough to say which one(s) yours and lcadena's are.

First plants are Epiphyllums, orchid cacti. The other plant with the blooms is Cereus peruvianus. Trim away all the dead and unsightly portions, and the plants will send out new growth.

Slugs or snails.

Thx Christopher and cactusmcharris. I've never had this problem. Is this a typical for succulents?

Indeed I was thinking slugs, as my amigo Jeff has stated...Prevalent mostly at night and early morning when conditions are warm and humid or wet...

Succulents with their thick leaves and abundant moisture are ideal fodder for slugs and snails.

Eat half a cantaloupe.

That night, set the rind, upside-down, where you think there may be a slug problem. Next morning, you will find the cantaloupe rind full of any slugs that were around. Throw it away.

(Or, use non-toxic Slug-go.)
