They will be fine, winters here are warm enough that roots will still grow. You may find they are growing new roots now, which are thick and pretty sturdy, so it makes sense to dig each clump and make big divisions of several rhizomes without removing all the soil and doing root damage.

That will be a treat for pedestrians. I'm doing some re-arranging now. As Chadinig says, bigger divisions with less roots disturbance is good. Helps to insure spring blooms.

Here's hoping that people just don't walk all over them.

It should be ok- I don't have parking on my side of the street, it used to bother me but now it's kind of nice actually. I am more worried about dog poo and trick-or-treaters :) my last place I had to put boulders in the parking strip to keep it from being trampled!

Dogs don't like society garlic and thyme. There are probably other plants they don't like the smell of that you can use. Ever since I planted society garlic and ground cover thyme in with my sidewalk flowers, even the big dogs pass by and leave them alone.
