First thing you do when you move in to a new home?
Comments (76)I'm not even a neat freak but my mom has managed to train me to CLEAN on moving in to a new place, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. These days due to health I hire someone to do it, but the full deal - wiping out the inside of cabinets and everything. I don't normally stress about other people having used the house first, but with kitchens and bathrooms you just can't know how good things like food safety habits were, and who wants to deal with food poisoning or similar right after moving?...See MoreYou know you are living in New England when...
Comments (16)Gotta try the fluffernutter. Love the name. Come my way, and I'll make you a banana sandwich, your choice of peanut butter or mayo on it. Going to New England in the fall to see all those small towns and the leaves change in the Fall is on my list....See MoreWhat inspections did you have when you bought your house?
Comments (26)Full Home Inspection but there was mine subsidence (abandoned coal mine collapses impacting everything above it) in the condo complex that was not disclosed to me until after the deal was done. My furniture hadn't even arrived when i found out. No recourse since it didn't impact my home at the time. Was laid off in June 3 years later and offered a job out of state. Put my home on the market and the complex suffered a recurrence the Saturday before my first open house and this time it impacted every condo in the complex which had to be disclosed. It didn't help that my neighbors were telling people as they got out of the car to see the place. Sold my home for 40,000 less than what I owed. And to add insult to injury, the insurance policy wasn't paid until a year after the occurrence and would only be paid to owner at the time of the payout so of course the bank decided they need to foreclose one month before the payment was due to happen. I ended up selling it and it closed 5 days before the foreclosure was scheduled. The new owner was probably able to pay off the loan with the insurance payment....See MoreDog's Food Dishes & Water Bowl - HELP!!
Comments (3)I don't know the size of your dogs, but in my experience and the research I've done, dogs should not eat out of raised dishes. Their anatomy is built to eat off the ground. Eating out of a raised dish allows air to enter the body and causes extra gas, and if you have a large breed dog, they can get bloat. Which is a horrible thing to experience. I found a plastic tray that has round raised sides that keep spilt water and food off the floor. Easy pick-up for an easy clean-up....See Morehijole
