Last year I planted 3 large sedum Matrona only to have weeks of thunderstorms literally turn the plants to mush and rotted.

So I thought I'd give it a go again this Spring and I bought 3 new large healthy plants in May. Then we had a month long cool rainy June and they seemed to be handling it fine, but upon inspection in mid July, the leaves started developing brown spots all over, eventually falling off. Now, some of the flowers and stems are drying and falling off. The stems don't feel mushy though.

So now I guess I'll take some stem cuttings before the entire plant dies and maybe some will survive for next year. Honestly, I'm not even sure I want to give it this effort. I've grown plenty of sedums and all of them except Matrona seem to handle summers with plenty of rain, though they prefer the dry. This variety just doesn't do well with any moisture!

Has anyone else experienced this with Matrona? Question on cuttings....since all the stems have flower heads on them, can I just cut the stems and plop it in the ground or should I cut the flower head off first?
