I thought the Abies procera WB was a Pinsapo at first. Very tight needles, lovely.

Zsolt-wonderful pictures-I wish I could have one of each.
Can you please tell me what is causing the browning of the buds in the picture of Abies sibirica Gubino and Abies veitchii Secrest? Is it a fungus? It looks very similiar to a problem I was having this year.

    Thank you so much.

Hello, browning is caused by large spring frosts, which were in the Czech. got frostbitten very much abies, Picea and Pseudotsuga.

Yes, the continental Europe gets every year in mid May the last frosts. In deep valleys there may cause hard frosts, and not only conifers, but flowering Rosaceae (Apricot, Cherry, Peaches, Apple etc) or nuts.
I met this year collectors in Cesko, who must forget some imported conifers as Abies concolor and others.

Therefore we used to say in Hungary, that a Sequoiadendron or Abies cephalonica is hardy over 3 meters. I guess this sounds a bit strange, but late frosts damage mostly below 2-3 meters above soil.
