Yellow daisy like flower along roads

I live near Clayton and alongside the roads, there are plants blooming now with small maybe 1 1/2 inch yellow daisy like flowers. There are many places I see this, along Shotwell Road , Covered Bridge Road and especially along Buffalo Road. Does anyone know what this is?

coreopsis? i think those are the ones i see blooming this time of year. i don't know the species- they are fine leaves like 'limerock ruby' and those type of cultivars. we have them here on buffaloe in garner, too. they are small- like 1 or 2' at most, and the flowers are small, too- about 1". neat appearance. if the plants are taller (2-3.5') with raggy orange cosmos type foliage and more of a blowsy shape they would probably be bidens. which is considered a weed, but i love them and grow them in my garden. BUT there are so many flowers that have that single yellow daisy flower that bloom right now, it's hard to sort out without a picture. the size and foliage is key.

Bidens polylepis, commonly called Bur-marigold or Beggar Ticks. One of my favorite wildflowers.

i always try to have some growing near where the spider lilies bloom- i adore the bright red and sunny yellow together. the drought killed most of mine this year, though. i knew my dad called the tick-something, but couldn't recall what.

There are also several forms of goldenrod that bloom about now, not just the familiar panicles, but others; most of them are in the 2-4' range, and most grow in clumps, not as singletons.

I guess you'll either have to look them up in a wildflower book, or post a photo, to be sure

This year is the first time I've grown bidens. Dawn and Bob gave me some and I never planted it in the ground due to the drought. Left it in the pot they had it in and set it in a spot that I thought it would be happy and it has thrived in that pot with very minimal watering. It has been a wonderful surprise and certainly has a home in my gardens after they've been so beautiful this year!

Here, the really tall ones with yellow flowers are often varieties of helianthemum..in the sunflower family. My county is home to one that is on the endangered species list and you see 'Do Not Mow' signs along roadsides all over Union and in fewer areas of Mecklenburg.

I always enjoy the bidens bloom. There is something else taller with very small yellow flowers blooming now. I need to look at some wildflower sites to see if I can ID it. There are several good sized areas of it blooming on my way into town.
