First, i do not trust labels except from specialty nurseries - and even then I have seen some big mistakes! I'm looking at the book, "Guide To The Aloes Of South Africa" and it says that A. littoralis is a variable species. It is a single-stemmed tree aloe, up to 3 meters high, and of the single stemmed aloes is the only one with white spots on the upper and particularly the lower surfaces. Young specimens have more spots than older ones. Flowers are silvery-pink with yellow tips. Leaves are grayish-gren, with brown to reddish-brown teeth arising from a white base. HTH.

Mine does have some spotting, I'd have to take a closer look to see if it has spotting on the lower surfaces. The color of mine is powdery blue-green and the teeth are on the edges and an ocassional spine is on the front or back side of the leaves. Right now, it's under some stress and the leaf tips are reddish.

I had a closer look at our aloe and it does have prominent spotting on both sides of the leaves, along with brown spines. I guess now we should just wait for when it blooms. Thanks for your input!

You probably know this, but juvenile plants can differ greatly from mature ones, and in many cases the defining factor in plant ID is flower colour/arrangement.

I've found A. littoralis to be a single stem/rosette Aloe but I think it's be kind of neat to core the center of one and force it to pup...but that's just me. My suggestion certainly would disfigure the Aloe (in some folks' eyes) and also likely delay any flowering.

this summer I attended a lecture by Kelly Griffin, all through the lecture he drummed into us that leaf morphology means nothing. So as Jeffrey Harris wrote you will need to wait till it blooms to get a positive ID. Here is a pic of mine and it's bloom.
