PICS -Thanks Mike and Al and others who help

I just wanted to post a few pictures of my trees I took today. I will be the first to say my trees don't look perfect. However, they are not declining anymore and some are really improving. What has made the difference??? Great help from some super friendly and supportive folks on GW, 5:1:1 mix, Foliage Pro, vinegar added to my water, spraying with fish emulsion and water.

It has been over 100 degrees here every day for several weeks and my trees are in the full hot sum all day.

First is my Ponderosa Lemon - which now has lots of blossoms, green leaves, and new growth. This tree had two main branches when I got it a couple of months ago and the leaves were not as green. The white specs on the leaves in the photo are not bugs. They are from the blossoms.

This is a Meyer Lemon rooted cutting. It has gone from having 5 leaves to now sporting 15 leaves in a very short time.

This is the Meyer Lemon tree that caused me to join the forum. So, as much trouble as I have had with this tree - I thank it for inspiring me to learn. It lost most of its leaves. I pulled off 11 of the 12 lemons to help it along. It had pests like crazy and I was over-watering it. I know it is not real pretty but I love seeing leaves that are not yellow and every day that a leaf does not drop is a good day. I am waiting anxiously to see some signs of new growth.

This next one is my Mandarin. It had been dropping lots of leaves and had signs of spider mites. Not anymore. Yippee. I am seeing new growth ready to pop.

{{gwi:617609}}

This is my Mexican Lime tree. It has tons of new growth and two limes on it. When I got it a few months ago every leaf on the tree was dull and curly/deformed. Silly me, I thought that was how it was supposed to look. The new growth is so pretty. A few of the old leaves got sunburned last week as this tree gets the very most intense sun all day.

Thanks again to all who visit the forum and share what has worked for them and offer an encouraging word to those of us who are learning and thanks to all who ask questions too. I really appreciate each person who has taken the time to correspond with me in such a positve way on the forum.

Great job Kim! Thanks for the pics. I am jealous, my trees are all huddled on the shadiest part of the patio just trying to survive and escape the insufferable heat.

Glad you were able to get rid of those nasty pests that looked like large bacon bits! :-)

Thanks. Your trees will take off I am sure. I have gone through so many ups and downs with mine but I have learned a lot here and I think one by one I am getting rid of the problems.

Thanks. I would love to give mine some shade in the late afternoon. It was 105 on my back patio today! I am ready for fall - but not winter because I have not ordered my clear vinyl to enclose the covered part of the patio! I still have no idea what the bacon bits were but since I started the fish emulsion and water sprays I have not seen them again. When you get your shed fixed up for winter be sure to post pics.

    Good Morning everyone! :)
    Hi kim,
    Thanks..;)

I haven't been able to get mine planted in the right mix yet.. poor babies are still in the garbage from last summer. :(

    Looking forward to fall..

When I do get them switched over.. I know where to find the best help there is if I need it. ;)

    Great pics.

What was ailing your Mexican Lime and how did you cure it?

    jacklord

Hi. I am not certain what was ailing my lime tree but I think it was spidermites or some other pest. I repottted in the 5:1:1 mix, I try to not overwater, and I started spraying weekly with fish emulsion and water mixture. The new growth looks great. So, hopefully I have solved the problem.

That fact that your roots are happy campers, funtioning very freely and properly, allows your plant to take up the nutrients and water in a much more effiecient way causing you to have a much healthier plant, something pests tend to shy from.

Weakend and poor conditioned plants are always primary targets for all these pest sap sucking pests.

Could be too that the FE is a big help, at least that is what it has done for mine. Maybe both?

    Great job partyprincess!

Very much better looking and I am proud of you.

Thanks Mike and Josh. I am hoping for temperatures somewhere below 100 degrees soon! Even 99 would feel better than this!

Kim, was it the vinegar, the fish emulsion or the repotting that helped with the spider mites? I have them on my tomato plants and can't figure out what to do. Also, it is so hot where I am also, about 99 to 100 degrees everyday. I put some fish emulsion on my watermelon plants, but was worried that it might burn them in these high temperatures. Did you have any problems with that or any concerns about using fish emulsion in the high heat? Thanks...:)

hi Kim, i am glad your trees are doing much better. Can you describe how you are doing the vinegar and the fish emulsion please? i am having issues with my trees, they are probably at your "before" stage and i like to take them to the "now" pictures look.

    thanks

    Hi Littleluey!

So you want to take them to the next level?

I can tell you that if you follow Patty's advice, you will get there.

I personally can only grow mine in containers and they are treated entirely different than in-ground. I only use Fish Emulsion to encourage pest free trees and vinegar to keep my water solution on the acidic side at almost every watering.

Kari: The dosage on the FE bottle for foliar sprayer is quite safe if applied very early in the am or after the hottest part of the day. Sorry for a delayed response:-)
