Here's a cottage for my cottage garden :)

I saw this on the Internet and it's almost my perfect cottage...to bad the picture is a little fuzzy, but it looks better printed.

If I ever remodel my farmhouse, this is the look I want to achieve...except a bigger window on the right, with a window seat and a second fireplace on the right side wall (it's actually already there). I would love to put a big chimney on the front, with a vestibule bump out :)

They call it a 'dream house' because you have to dream up where you're going to get the money, right? LOL

Here's the link to the Cotswold cottage. Doesn't it look like something out of a fairy tale? I just love it :)

Did you receive your copy (or pick one up)of Victoria magazine for September/October yet? Drool. I think you'll find a cottage or two to suit your taste!

Mine is on page 34, lower right hand corner. That is, I would use this design, just the portion of the house shown in the photo and make it much smaller of course. But I really would want a separate breakfast room addition on one side, all glass windows. With those double front doors, I may be able to use my tall antique double screen doors I've had for years and am keeping "just in case".

Schoolhouse- No, I haven't gotten my new Victoria magazine, yet. I need to go to the store...it sounds wonderful :)

I can't wait to see the cottages you're talking about...and a breakfast room with glass windows all around sounds like the perfect place to relax and enjoy the garden...and maybe have tea! LOL

Do you have any pictures of your antique double screen doors? I'd love to see them.

No, I don't have any photos of the screen doors; but you can bet if I think anyone has just a bit of interest in my old things I will take some! They are that old dark green color, too. The screen in them is old but no holes - I should say, WERE no holes - some years ago guys installing a new garage door poked a hole in the upper part of one. They never told me, but I know it had to have been them.

It's just that they are behind some other things in the garage now and I'll have to move all that first. That, and it's only 95 degrees here today; so I don't feel like making an effort. I have some fans going that are helping, thank goodness for my little 6" Dollar General fan on the computer desk.

Schoolhouse- While I would love to see a picture of your screen doors, do NOT go out in this heat to take one. It sounds like you've had a lot of warm weather, lately.

We've been in the high 60s the last few days and we're supposed to get some rain today. I hope so. It was down to 30 the other night, so I think my tomatoes will be over any day now...and all still green. Maybe next year :)

Last week we had wonderful weather - 70's during the day 60 and even 50's at night. Beautiful. One more day of 90 degree temps the weatherman said and then we too are expecting some rain and returning to fall-like weather.

Yesterday it was hot but I decided to prune the branches of the mulberry tree in the orchard. They naturally want to arch and these particular ones were nearly to the ground already, felt like driving through curtains when I was mowing. All this growth this year by the way. It was a volunteer and grew to be a tall tree and should have been cut down but I kept letting it go. Birds love the berries! I used my electric pruning pole saw that can reach 10', I thought my shoulders and neck were going to kill me today but I feel good. Too hot to haul the debris to the brush pile tho.

I got ripe tomatoes just not a boatload like usual. I'm cooking and freezing them whenever I get a dozen or so.

While on a frantic search in my house for another book today, I found a wonderful one at the bottom of a pile called "Ideas for Great Backyard Cottages" by Sunset Books. Page 61 was bookmarked. Now I remember why.

Didn't do a Google search for the book yet, but you might see if you can find it. I think I bought it at Lowes where their handyman books are. (The sleeping porch on page 97 is dreamy)

I got the new Victoria magazine and page 34 was my favorite, too. That would make a wonderul cottage and I can see what you mean about the double doors...perfect for your antique screens. In the picture above, I love the beams and the fireplace, with the plaid wing chairs. So cottage...right out of a fairy tale.

There was a great article about Beatrix Potter with some wonderful photos. I'm still thinking about doing a little Peter Rabbit potager in my kitchen garden :)

Thanks for recommending the book. It sounds like a lot of fun and I'll see if I can find it this week.

If you like to look at cottages you will enjoy the link below. There are other categories there as well that might appeal. I've spent many hours looking at pics at this site.
