I think what you are looking for is an Elkhorn cactus (Rhombophyllum dolabriforme) and it's actually a succulent. I picked one up at Lowes. High Country Gardens sells them too.

You've got me started on the right path! I think she has a "zig zag" cactus, so she must think that a moose horn is something different. It might not be! There is a moose horn on Ebay right now, but perhaps it's really a cryptocereus??

No, Elkhorn isn't right, but it sounds awfully close to moose horn!

First of all, cacti are also succulents. The usual term is 'cactus and other succulents'.
Second this taxon also has areoles in the nodes as Ian correctly states.

I'm not a fan of common names, but in answer to yr. Q, have you ever seen the "Rick Rac" used in sewing as decoration? Looks very much like this plant (but when I opened the pic I was expecting to see Pedilanthus, as I've also heard it referred to as that).
