Conifer nurseries in Oregon and Washington?

Looking for a nice weekend drive to see some conifers. We're in the Portland metro area. Thanks!

Conifer Kingdom/Rare Tree Nursery in Silverton (and you can see the beautiful, large conifer garden at the Oregon Garden, as it is just a few minutes away). Iseli (in Boring) usually lets people visit their display garden, but I'm not sure if they are open on weekends - give them a call. European Nursery in Hillsboro has some really cool unusual plants but I don't know if they allow visitors.

    Oregon Garden = good bet.
This is shipping season for nurseries. If they have time to take you on a tour they are in trouble.

"This is shipping season for nurseries. If they have time to take you on a tour they are in trouble."

That's not entirely true. Some nurseries "plan accordingly". At places like Rarefind, they ship from Monday to Wednesday, and fully gear up to accommodate visitors Thursday through Saturday. I've had many a tour during shipping season there.

The Iseli Display Garden surrounds their office and the 'tour' is self-guided.

I just made the trip a few weeks ago, and I will second Sara's recommendations. The Oregon garden has some awesome mature specimens in their conifer garden, and is certainly worth the drive itself. Conifer Kingdom is literally 5 minutes away and is conifer nirvana! I believe they have some retail hours on Friday and Saturday.

I concede your point, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

Might make the drive to European Nursery since it's only 10 minutes away!

We'll plan a trip to the Oregon Garden and Conifer Kingdom later in the spring. Forgot all about the conifers at the Garden. Iseli looks really cool. DH is a photographer, so it should be fun!

    Thanks for the tips!

If you are driving to Iselie , you should stop in Sandy Oregon, Porterhowse Nursery .
I have been there several times with the ACS and it has always been a great visit. And it is close to Portland

Conifer Kingdom has just sent out an email saying that they welcome visitors during normal biz hours (monday-sat) and if you are from any state other than CA, OR or WA they will treat you to a free night at the Oregon Garden Resort! Call or email their customer service for info. Remember that CK is retail/mail order and has a completely different pace of business than a grower shipping to wholesalers/retailers.

Also if Porterhowse is open to visitors, I heartily second plantningman's suggestion. Don Howse is one of the nicest, most knowledgeable coneheads that I know!
