Has the soil been in the same pots for two years?

Fungus gnats are drawn to decaying organic matter, such as Peat Moss that dominates the potting soil industry.

Generally, fungus gnats are an aesthetic nuisance rather than a serious threat to your plants. In some limited
cases, I suppose the larvae of fungus gnats might compromise enough of a seedling's root-system to cause death...
but I've never seen it happen. And when it comes to a healthy plant with a full complement of roots,
it is *extremely unlikely* that the larvae could kill the plant.

The easiest way to control gnats is to eliminate Peat Moss and other rich organics (compost) from your mix.

Get a 5 gallon bucket of water and fill it. Toss in a few crushed mosquito dunks and let it sit for a day or two. Then water your trees/plants with it. It kills the larva so after a few waterings your gnat problems should be solved.

thanks for the advice, but i posted this in case OTHER people need help, i solved my problem... and yes, the gnats wer killing some of the younger ones
