Tree aloes in bloom now

Here's a photo of a group of blooming Aloe thraskii from Kwazulunatal/Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. One of my favorite tree aloes because it blooms so reliably every year, and also has interesting twisted foliage. Kind of amazing that it seems to do as well in clay soils here in Berkeley as it does in its native coastal sand dunes at home. Typically this starts blooming in early November or so, and lasts in bloom until early February. Worth looking for if you like 'em big and tall and have the room. Probably best in coastal California than elsewhere in the country; as it is a might too big for indoor culture, and doesn't handle cold well much below 26F in winter. A nice soft tangerine color of bloom that is quite showy.
