    Nate,
sounds really good, but the Russian Summer in Siberia is very short and hot, no more than 2-3 weeks, even over 30 C.
All plants must work very quickly to survive the next long winter.
The expedition was in August, they had to keep alive the scions anyway till the next February grafting. This was an other hard adventure for Jorg and Franz. Some grafts has problems even today, as it was to be seen. Some of them not survived, thats part of the risks.
