Here I am, finially!

I was going crazy not being able to get on the forum and hardly get the computer to work at all. So my regular computer guy is on some sort of extended (its been two months already) out of town job and I couldn't wait anymore. I had to resort to looking in the yellow pages to get someone to come out and fix my computer. Couldn't really be "fixed" as such, the hard drive had to be replaced with a new one and then things had to be installed from scratch. Like Micrsoft Word is reinstalled my all my old files on it are gone. All my old e-mail files and my address book gone too. All my pictures that were on my computer gone, gone, gone. Fortunatly I always uploaded the ones I really liked to PhotoBucket so I could put them on the forums.

But I am not going to be doing new pics anytime soon. I don't even have the software on the computer to download pictures. I will have to go to the Kodak Website and re-install it.

I did try Kays suggestion of PC Tools anti virus and while it cleaned out literally over 1,600 threats and virus all the redirects stayed and the computer was slower than molasses until it frooze up. Then there was nothing to do but to turn it off.

I really, really missed being abel to come here. I felt like I was cut off from the world!

It sounds like a real computer nightmare. Glad to see you finally got back on the forum!

    How are the chickens doing?

So glad you are back. I sure do hope you will be able to take the pictures of all those bulbs you planted. We will want to see those, even if it is later.

Great that you are back! RAther selfish on my part, I've been anticipating those spring pics from you too.
I hate not being able to get on my computer, can hardly stand it for just a day. I would probably have all my hair ripped out if I had to wait a week, DH's hair would be tugged out after 2 months!

Oh, I do intend to get back to taking pictures. Especially as spring comes around and those spring bulbs I put in start to bloom. I have been thinking all winter on how truely beautiful it will be and looking forward to it. I just have to go to Kodak and download the software. I had to do that years ago when I joined gardenweb and started posting pictures here anyway. So I will just have to do it again.

Its windy but mild today. March is when the weather usually turns toward spring around here. There had even been years when there have been daffodil blooms mid to late march but thats not going to happen that early this year.

It always surprises me how different zones are. I would assume your area would be warmer than here, but I have early daffs in full bloom, several other varieties are budded out & should bloom soon. I saw daffs around town in bloom even before mine did. Miniature iris are already seem to be fading.

HELLO RITA' I am so glad you have your computer fixed and able to get back on the forum.I have missed you.I was hoping you could get it fixed before Bloom time, so you can post all them gorgeous photos again.I lost everything I had on my pc too, last year, so with a new one,I put all my pictures that I didnt want to lose on a flash drive. Now, when I want to look at them, just put in the flash drive and I can sit and look at all of them as a slide show. love it.

I'm glad you are back too! Mine crashed after I turned if off so I have a laptop back up on the way from HP. A gift to me from me! I lost everything too! I put all my pix on Photobucket and fortuately, I had made cd's of my locations but I'm afraid I lost my crosses list. That's ok though because the ones I have on the bucket have the crosses on the pics. Ellie

I have all my good pictures on Photobucket too so no worries. The ones on the computer that I never put on photobucket were duplicate or not as good types of pictues so no problem. And I was going nuts without my computer time and favorite forum!

I did find some of my work files that the guy put on here from the crashed drive and I thought were gone. And whatever I don't have I will just do without or download again if I need it.

As far as things being late here I have never figgured out why things here in my garden are so late sometimes. Strange weather I guess. The daffs are just peeking out of the ground and I can tell that more will be coming up so it is just the beginning of that. Should be a spectacular bulb show.

I did do a big walkabout of my garden this afternoon and really looked at everything. My Dutch Iris are up like crazy. That is going to be very interesting when they bloom.

    Rita,
I guess you can see you've been missed. Can't do without all the pics and the updates on your projects.

The chickens are getting a lot bigger now, aren't they? Those lavenders are so pretty!

Thanks. I feel like the regulars here are old friends and I can't stand it when I can't get on the forum, that's for sure!

The chickens really grew so much and all got big. They are gone though, I don't have them any more and they have a nice new home with an acquantance that could give them all the room I don't have. I just got the crazies and couldn't resist hatching and having them for awhile. But I have no room and they are illegal here so common sense finially got to me and they moved out. I did really, really like them and miss their antics !

My computer's hard drive crashed back in November, got the blue screen of death, then the black screen of death, and that was all she wrote. The reader arm in the drive bounces around on the platter with a clicking sound, making it unable to read the platter. A friend tried installing a new hard drive in the computer but it wouldn't take. Some other components in the computer's mother board must have been fried as well. I lost everything. Some of my pictures were saved, the ones I downloaded onto Photobucket and Facebook, but the rest are gone. I lost my novel too, fortunately I had the first three chapters saved in my email, the rest I had to write all over again. After that fiasco of losing my computer, my friend installed Dropbox, so now my important files, like my novel, automatically go into my Dropbox account whenever I work on it and save it, so if and when this computer I have now decides to go all blue or black screen of death on me, I can still access my files. I'll also back up on a CD too, but Dropbox is more convenient.

Anyway, sorry you lost your computer and everything on it. I can feel your pain. :(

Honestly, I don't know how the world ever got along before the internet. And I am plenty old that I remember such old times. But I like the modern times better. What fun it is to read about gardens now starting to bloom further down south while nothing is going on here.

FYI - You probably don't need any special software to pull pictures off your camera. If you have your camera plugged into the computer and on, you should be able to find it in your main directory along with your hard drive, CD drives, and such (Start button -> "Computer" in newer versions of Windows). You can go into the camera and copy the images, then paste them to a new location.

Of course, if you like the Kodak software you had before, there's nothing wrong with using it.

Been there done that Rita...it's a bummer for sure. As for the internet, how in the heck did we ever get along without it? LOL Now that I'm traveling, it's so easy to keep in touch with my family and friends. My main thing now is Facebook...I do so love that. I stay in constant touch with my family on there.
I'm going to drop around here more often now, so I'm looking forward to your photos and lots of others too. Glad you finally got back up and running. :)

Rita, so glad you made it back. Know not getting online must've driven you crazy. I had to have a geek work on my computer this year too, but my problems were minor. Dayliliy season just wouldn't be the same without all your great pictures. Thank goodness you didn't lose many of your pictures.
