Have you ever had a seedling... (pics)

Have you ever had a seedling that had some great qualities, but you didn't like the color? lol

This seedling bloomed for the first time last year. It increased so fast that I've got a huge clump of it. It's got great branching and loads of buds but it's just such a screaming ORANGE! yikes.

Beautiful garden shots, Jackie O! Must be my monitor, but it looks rather pink here...or are you talking about the eyezone area? It looks kinda like school bus yellow to me.

Primal Scream, now that's a screaming orange!

Anyway, gardening is all about having what you like. Since it has such good habits, maybe you could use it as a parent and try again? After all, you've got the increase, the branching/buds (2 out of 3), so try to put the flower you'd like on it!

Jackie, that is an absolutely gorgeous garden. I am smitten with it. I love the color with your malva (French hollyhock). I think it is wonderful.

Thank you for asking about my new baby recently. She is getting big and cute and sweet. We just love her more and more each day. She knows how to look sad and play on my most compassionate side. Treats! She knows how to get 'em. She and I had a week together. DH took to the Coast with the kids and we stayed behind. We had a lot of time to bond so I hope I kept her busy enough to realize I can do more than hand out treats. We had fun at the park, the creek and going for fast food. We even went to the Farmer's Market together. She met many new friends.

If your daylily multiplies too fast, just let me know -- I will be happy to take a start. :) I do love it with your mallow; the colors are fantastic!!!!!! You have such a great eye for garden colors.

Pat dear if you like it I will most certainly send you some! The mallow seeded itself there so I can't take all the credit lol.

okay, I know I'm supposed to be looking at the daylily, but I can't help notice the plant in the back with all the white blooms. Is that a hydrangea? Do you know which one?

Yes, almost all of seedlings are mis-colored!
I think it's one of Murphy's Laws. "The more vigorous a seedling is, the uglier the color!" ;0)

gonegardening thanks and you're right. I should try crossing it with something else that I like better. I just have a feeling that orange is a dominant color and it's going to show up in whatever I cross with lol.

Laurie that's the Annabelle that ate my yard lol. My Annabelle hydrangeas are trying to take over the world. But I love them!

    Ed you're so right. : )

Jean thanks but it really is pretty orange.

    Thank you Nicki!

Dick thanks. The flowers are about 7 inches across. The scapes are about three feet high and maybe a foot above the foliage. Your yellow sounds great. Good luck with it and I'll look for pictures from you.

Jackie - How old is that Annabelle? I've had Annabelle for two or three years and she's pretty, but I've never seen that many blooms. Maybe she like the northern climate better, or hopefully she just needs a little more time to bloom like that :)

    Jackie,

Sorry, I know this is the daylily forum and not the hydrangea forum, but I just noticed how straight up your Annabelle is. Do you have something holding it up? Mine tends to flop over when the blooms get heavy. I put one of those metal rings around it, but all they had at Lowes were the short ones and I think something taller would do better.

Jackie, I love Annabelle for a backdrop. My neighbor with the all pink and white garden has Annabelle, white crape myrtle and bridal wreath throughout her garden for a backdrop for her beautiful pink roses and azaleas. In summer, she adds some dark pink vinca and against the background, it is all very beautiful.

And Yes, I would love a daylily. I absolutely love this daylily with the mallow. Isn't it funny how things seem to seed at the appropriate place sometimes.

Laurie my Annabelles are so huge that I had my husband put up a small decorative fence in front of each one. I have the other fence behind them and as they were growing up I tied a rope around them to the two fences. They've completely covered the rope and they're holding up pretty well.
Unfortunately I've got my favorite Golden Celebration rose between two of them and it's getting swallowed up...

Hmmm...doesn't look orange to me either, more of a rosy pink with a large melon throat. I love it....LOL Your photos are all beautiful...thanks for sharing.
