Books about growing flowers in Georgia?

Can anyone recommend a book(s) that will help me with when to start seeds for growing flowers in Georgia? I'm not really looking for something that will tell me the "best" flowers for Georgia but something that will help me adjust when I have to plant things since I'm a northern transplant.

Thanks for the idears.

Hey there's even a book for Atlanta!
Gardening 'Round Atlanta - it's not perfect, but it's a great start.
Walter Reeves also has several books, and you can look at them on his website.

I always wonder why local Atlanta libraries do not carry more books on Southeastern gardening. Our local library even has "hot plants for cool climates"! Not a very good choice for Atlanta in July, lol!

Have you checked out 'Month by Month, Gardening in Georgia' by Walter Reeves and Erica Glasener?
    HTH.

    I strongly recommend the following:

    Sunbelt Gardening by Tom Peace
    The Southern Living Gardening Book
Bulletproof Flowers for the South by Jim Wilson
Bulbs for the South by Scott Ogden
Armitage's Garden Perennials by Allan Armitage
Antique Roses for the South - William C. Welch.

Those are my absolute core library.

I have Gardening Round Atlanta and I didn't care for Month by Month.

I just bought the Southern Living Garden Book which comes pretty close to what I was looking for.

I'll check out some of the others mentioned. Thanks!

As a simple monthly planting and maintenance guide for folks from other areas I recommend the Peachtree Garden Club book. It has been around for decades and has been updated and reissued. I think it is worlds better than the Reeves books. I buy them at B & N.

Recently I read a book called "In a Southern Garden"
I can't remember the author but she lives in Huntsville I think. I found it very informative as they pretty much have the same weather we do. It was quite entertaining also. She writes as a person who has lived in the south her whole life.

I'm not crazy about the Reeves books either. I do think Georgia Gardening Guide is a good reference for plants that will do really well in the state, but don't like Month by Month at all. My problem with the books is I have not had good experiences following the instructions in them. I killed one plant by following directions to cut it back at a time of year that didn't make sense to me. Sure enough - two weeks after I followed the advice in Month by Month a healthy plant was dead. My biggest gripe - because it caused me so much work - was the instructions in the Gardening Guide for planting daphne. I followed the instructions religiously because daphnes are so picky about their soil. Turned out that not only did following the directions not create a mound of soil to set the daphne on, the directions created a sunken planting spot. Can't tell you how much extra soil and amendments I had to cart in to fix the problem. I am starting to believe that Walter Reeve's suggestions are really practical jokes.

I do second Armitage's Garden Perennials as a good book for the south. Passalong Plants is inspiring. Makes me want to get the Southern Gardening book.
