Vero Swap a feast of food,, plants, people and pets

Ted and I wish to thank Jim and Tonya for hosting this lovely swap. The gardens were a kaleidoscope of color and diversity as were the wonderful gardeners who attended. Those who were unable to attend truly missed a wonderful event. Jim is a grill master and the chicken was heavenly. Junior is the sweetest dog and sure knew who the soft touch was for chicken as he became my best friend. The lovely black duck was not happy that she was not invited to dinner and should be glad he was not dinner. She is simply adorable, beautiful and is not spoiled in the least. There were lovely ducklings in the garage along with the worms and Tonya gave a most insightful demonstration and lecture on worm production. The weather was nice, the food divine and I got to meet the most wonderful person due to Ms Marion by the name of Iris and I gave her her own cultivar for a name. She will forever be known as the Pink Egyptian Iris. She is a rare treasure and I felt so honored to spend a little bit of time in her presence.

Thanks once again to our wonderful hostess and host and to Ms Marion for getting the show on the road and for everyone who shared their time, stories and plants. There truly will be pictures posted tomorrow from not only this swap but the one in Deland and the one at Ricky's. Happy planting your new babies, Linda

Yes, many thanks to Tanya, Jim and Marion for such a wonderful event. The weather cooperated beautifully, the pond was unbelievable - you have to see this one and the garden was outstanding!!

It was nice to meet with old friends and meet so many new ones. Thank you all for the plants (how did I come home with so many?)and looking forward to seeing everyone again.

With all the cameras clicking, I'm sure there will be pictures (I hope)

Many Thanks to Jim and Tanya for inviting us into their home. A beautiful garden (2.5 acre ) so close into town. We have the same acreage, but do not garden it all like this younger couple. About 1.5 or ours is in palmetto and pine. Jim says Tanya is the Brain and he is the Muscle. Whatever, it certainly works.

Was happy Jay-wpb came because he and I were the only 2 edible landscape gardeners I think. We don't eat the daisy's.

Tanya, check your email for my phone number and give me a call please.

It was an enjoyable afternoon and we did not get rained on,

Pictures will be coming later tonight and if I could type late at night then I would spell Tanya's name correctly also. Am I bad or what? Headed off to force Ted, who has decided his GW handle will be scents_from_heaven's slave, to pack up the remainder of his condo and then I can sit down and post. I will do the overlays and stuff later. Linda

Last night I stayed up and planted all my coleus and several other things in the dark!
Jinxie and Junior would like to know where everyone went!
I love whoever brought the seashells as they will get a place of honor in my shell border.
Jim had to preach this AM and showed three houses after church,so between the party and church and real estate he is ZONKED!
He was rattling on in excitement about the banana and Giant elephant ear from JAY though!
It was a great party. We had a ball meeting you all we just wished we had more time to visit with each of you.
The weather was sooooo fantastic. Not one raindrop and a cool breeze wafting through the air.
I cannot remember the names of all the plants you all lovingly gave me but I want to thank everyone for them!!!!
I hope you all are as happy as we are about the new plants you got to take home.I enjoyed the leftover plants and will pot them up for friends or our Master Gardener sale.
I am spending the rest of today getting the plants in before another storm(I hear thunder) and the pictures ready. Mine will not be as professional as Ted & Linda's but they will have T&L in them HEHE!
Hopefully we can have you all over again soon, probably not in the summer heat though!
Thanks all who came and made it so much FUN!

Tanya & Jim, Graham & I would like to thank you very much for hosting such a fabulous event. You have a superb garden.

Thanks to all for great plants & info. I've spent the whole day in our new garden(deciding what color coleus goes where is harder than I thought it would be), weeding & digging to make room for new plants from the swap, re-potting, etc.

Ginibee, satay recipe for 1-1/2lbs chicken (cut in 1/4" strips):
Mortar pound or grind 1 stem lemongrass (cut off roots; use lower end 4") 4 shallots; 2 cloves garlic; 1" ginger.
Ground spices: 3 tsp coriander; 2 tsp cumin; 1 tsp fennel; 1 tsp tumeric.
    2 tsp brown sugar
    1-1/2 tsp salt
    2 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tbsp tamarind liquid OR 1 tbsp Pickapeppa
    2 tbsp corn oil
Mix all and marinade for 4-6 hrs then skewer strips folding them MWMW. If you'd like a "hot" kick, add fresh jalapeno & increase coriander, cumin, fennel slightly. Peanut sauce, you can get a toned down version from Publix as a shortcut. :)

I can now put a face to a "name". It was sooo nice to have met you all.

smallfern - thanks for posting. I know I want to give it a try - now to find tamarind liquid or Pickapeppa sauce.

U stull can't spell es[ecially in the wee hours of the morning when I am asleep. I finally got all 491 photos uploaded to the computer and just finished uploading the 130 I liked best. Ted did a photographic tour of the garden or me since I would not walk around and I will be finalizing the slideshow today. I am headed off to see if they are going to work me today or give me the day off and work me Tuesday through Sarutday. Sure will be glad to get back to my normal position. I have not forgotten you guys just tired and too many photos as usual. We do not know how to take just one. *S* Linda

Well, it does help to check your posted schedule from time to time as health services must have notified modified duty that I am still on restrictions for the next two weeks so I have the day off today with pay as it is a holiday and I am going back to bed. I will work on pictures most of the day after I spend a litte time in th garden and then I will work in garden a little later tonight. I will attempt to take a few pictres of my garden if I get around to it. You know how it is - a photographer never gets around to their own photos. Linda

What a fun afternoon we had. "Pink Egyptian Iris" is still talking about the time she had. I enjoy her so much. It's fun do something nice for such a nice lady. I hope to be in such good shape when I'm 88. LOL

Thank you Tanya and Jim for hosting. Jim your chicken was delish, as were all the salads and sides. I'm planning on trying Smallfern's chicken, as the plate was empty when I went back to get a taste.
It was great to see old friends and meet new ones. Now we all have faces to go with the names!

Tanya the seashells were from me. They were given to me by one of our customers. I'm thrilled they have a new home.

Thanks to all for a great time and the plants. Hope we can all get together when the weather is cooler.

Love the shells and love you for suggesting the swap and bringing dear Iris! I think she could stand in for Tweety and Sylvesters owner!Only she got to deal with Junior and Jinxie LOL!
I was also given lovely tiles to add to my mosaic work was that you or I almost forgot. It was such a blur when people started arriving. I wanted time to stand still so i could really get to know everyone.I at times caught myself unable to think,I know Ginny asked me about a grass she had and my poor brain had just shut down!
I also found the Heliconia potted up in the garden that Ginny needed, sorry!
Found some castor bean seeds and something else and don't know if someone is missing .
Jim has been busy building a temporary OUTDOOR pen for the ducklings. today he was by the fenceline and the neighbors pitbull charged him. NOT GOOD!

Why don't more people use WEBSHOTS?
    It is the easiest!

Thanks Jim and Tanya for your hospitality. I loved the chance to meet up with old and new garden webbers.
Next time we meet anywhere else I will to bring you a foxtail palm. If you are in WPB area let me know and I will arrange for you to pick it up.

Surely you have a better one of me than scratching my nose?\:0

Yes, Tanya, I do have more of you but since it seems I can not make people happy I will send you privately the pictures and I will not post anymore. I am sorry if I offended anyone as that was never my intention. I was extremely tired when I attempted to get the first set done and I accidently posted some I did not intend to post but that is something that is too late to fix. I did have a good time but I am sorry for any offence. Linda

Here is one of you not scratching your nose and in that picture you were telling us that the product did not smell and were demonstrating.

I hope you got my email

    scents from heaven,
Thank you for all pics. Hubby & I had good laugh over many of them (the one with touch-ups actually had us laughing to tears) and the close-ups of the flowers/plants are super.

    goldenpond,
In Vero/Sebastian area, is there a store where I can buy a small amount of red wrigglers just to see what they're like and try to see if I can actually get something going without killing too many of them?

    Thanks.

Tanya, if the email remark was intended or me then no I did not receive one. I wish to apologize for anything I have posted here to offend anyone. I had an extremely long day with lots of pain and I was tired both emotionally and physically. but that is no excuse for being negarice or hurtful to people. I do not wish to create problems so I am going to leave the forum and stay out of things. It was nice meeting you and everyone else and please give Junior a bite of chicken for me along witha scratch and tell Jinxie I said hello. You truly have a wonderful home on golden pond and I hope you enjoy it for years to come. Linda
