How would you use or decorate this space? Need your design eye!

What would you do to jazz this space up next to my stove. The other side of the wall is the refrigerator. Shelf? Decoration? My kitchen is open concept so this is a very visible spot from the living area. From counter to top of vent hood it's 30 1/2" and the space is 29" wide. Thanks for your tips!!

Spice rack, knife rack. Something for each access when cooking. I love the stuff at Ikea, low price and works great. You can remove the curves on spice rack to make it more modern. The more hanging on the wall, the less on the counter for a cleaner look.

I agree with cyn222 and I really like the suggestion. It should be something functional. A chalkboard with menus, etc would be both decorative and functional.

I have my spices in a drawer - what I do need to corral neatly is a bottle of oil, the salt & pepper mills. Would a single shelf for those (that I make) be nice too? Or just a pretty photo?
