Gardening Charity Project for non-profit group?

Hi Everyone -

I am a volunteer for a local animal shelter...Friends of Strays: http://www.friendsofstrays.com/

and on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Saint-Petersburg-FL/Friends-of-Strays-Pinellas-County-Animal-Shelter/270757313524?ref=ts&__a=5

Yesterday, I was at the facility and speaking with one of the Directors (who works there every day with the animals...). She said that they are in dire need of a make-over (paint interior/exterior) and also exterior landscaping. They have no budget for this at all. None.

Their donations this year are down significantly due to the economy, so obviously, spending money on plants is not possible....or, paint...or anything other than care for the animals.

So, I got to thinking that with all of our passion for plants here, maybe we could donate some of our time and/or materials for some exterior lanscaping? They don't have a huge area, and it's mostly direct sun and foundation plants.

The landscape plants are sparse and not currently maintained. I saw a few NOID shrubs and some faux peanut ground cover.

So...my questions:

1) Would this be a good little 'pet' project for us Tampa Bay Florida Gardening folks to do on some future Saturday?

2) What info would you need from me in order to coordinate an activity like this?

3) Who would be interested in helping? Donating?..etc?

4) Other questions?

Dumb idea?....what do you think?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!
