My trip to Daylilies By The Pond :)

On my day off of work today, I took a trip to Norwalk to see Sara and her daylilies. I've been there twice before to see her hostas in the springtime, but didn't get around last year to see her daylilies in bloom. I made certain I would this year, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. She lives only 30 miles away, so the trip wasn't long at all, only 40 minutes driving time. Boy, when I pulled into her driveway, I was amazed at all the beautiful blooms awaiting me. I grabbed my camera and met Sara while she picked the mushies off from her lovely lilies. For four hours, she guided me around her gardens, giving me a wealth of information about her plants and shared stories with me. I even got to see some of her lovely seedlings in bloom, but didn't get any pictures of them. I did take several of the daylilies and some landscape photos. In the spring, it was hostas, but the daylilies and her bulb lilies were the stars this time around. Here are some of the photos I took.

These were taken up near the house, which sits on a hill looking down toward the pond, which is surrounded with daylilies, iris and bulb lilies, and a few hostas.

Looking toward her neighbors house...lucky people!

A bed at one corner of her house...these photos just don't do justice to the beauty that surrounded me.

And some photos of a few of her daylilies...

Clump of Blueberry Breakfast

Rosy Rhino

Spiny Sea Urchin

Crown Of Creation

Doyle Pierce

Water Dragon

Hawaiian Swirls

This is only a few of the pictures I took, and I didn't take nearly as many as I should have. When I went home and looked at my gardens, they looked puny compared to hers, but I only just started collecting last year. She's years ahead of me...lol! Someday, I hope to have a sea of daylilies like Sara has, but I'll need a bigger yard with fewer silver maples. I look forward to visiting many more times in the future, and buying more of her lovely plants.

    But Karen,
Think of all the fun you will have collecting your very own favorites. I'm sure by now you know that you will see more than you can reasonably buy just looking at the beautiful photos here.

Your pictures are beautiful, and, as always, I see a few I really need. Maybe I need Hawaiian Swirls. And Crown of Creation...

What a beautiful yard and setting. I don't know how one ever decides on what to choose to bring home when there is so much to see!

Karen, Missed you by one day.!!! That would have been really neat, to meet someone from this forum. We were there on Tuesday, we are two hours away, and this is the 2nd visit this summer. Her place is just beautiful, and it smells so good too.!! Isn't Pickles a cutie, he followed us all around. Just too many beautiful ones, and Sara is so informative, she just tells it like it is, and she's funny too. Your pictures are great. I took my camera too, but I went brain dead and actually forgot to take all the pics that I wanted. Thanks for posting.

Oh yes Kay, there are way too many dl's that I want, and know I can't have, not so much due to space at the moment (property is about .75 acre), I have quite a bit of grass that could go bye bye, but $$. The fun of collecting is getting a few new ones each year and watching them grow and bloom. Not to mention, my own seedlings. :)

Rita, I have no idea, I saw dozens that I wanted (and dozens and more dozens). Very hard to pick only a few. Didn't come home with any, I'll reserve getting dl's in the spring, though, I have had luck planting them in September. Hmmm....

Cindy, you posted while I was typing! Ya, Pickles is a cutie, but he was sleepy today and snoozed on the front steps. It would have been so neat to have met you...perhaps one of these days we'll have to plan a visit on the same day! And yes, those lilies of hers just filled the air with perfume, so heavenly! First her heucheras got me into wanting to collect those, now her oriental and orienpet (sp?) lilies got me wanting those too.

Thanks for sharing your photos. Sara's place and her daylilies look great! I grow Rosy Rhino, and I've never seen a bloom on it that gorgeously edged and ruffled!

Beautiful place! I can see why you enjoy going there. That's really great...I think the very best way to buy...where you can see it growing in your area.

That was really nice of her to spend four hours with you. (You really didn't buy anything??!...you are much more disciplined than I am!)

Very disciplined...but I'm saving up for an order of hostas for fall...lol! And, maybe a few more daylilies.

Those are all lovely, but I love Hawaiian Swirls, it is wonderful. Thanks for sharing your trip, I loved it.

I have lots of room too and the $$ problem. I am saving for a trip to our local daylily farm, I want to go in September to pick some up, they have a 10 for $50 deal on some of the older cultivars, I'm about half way there. lol
