Pop Poll for 2012: Have you voted?

Any of you who are AHS members, remember that it is easy to vote online. Go to the main website, hit Popularity Poll and choose your region to begin voting.

Almost all of these I've harped on about how wonderful they are already - sorry about that - but these were my 10 favorites for 2011:

AARON BROWN:

COFFEE TO GO:

DANCES WITH GIRAFFES: (fantastic bud builder and tall)

FLIGHT OF ORCHIDS:

MEAN GREEN:

MICHAEL DAVISSON:

ROSE F. KENNEDY:

OCEAN SPIRIT:

{{gwi:698639}}

STAR POLY:

TOUCAN SAM:

Your favorites are all wonderful, but were you able to vote for all of them in the Popularity Poll? I hate how limiting it is. In reality, nothing on the Region 10 Popularity Poll is even in my top 25 favorites this year.

I did vote, however. From the list I picked Bali Watercolor, Bela Lugosi, El Desperado, Land of Cotton and Victorian Lace. My write-ins were Last Snowflake, American Doll, Crazy Ivan, I Remember You and Westbourne Good Old Days.

Yes, actually five of these are on the Region 3 ballot. We tried to "modernize" our ballot this year since people were not happy with the same old same old. So the top two which had kept winning for several years in a row for our region ( Ruby Spider and Primal Scream) were "retired" to the Region 3 "Pop Poll Hall of Fame." Those cultivars could still win again if enough people write them in. Also, club presidents were allowed to nominate a few cultivars and a few other cultivars were added also from those getting high numbers of votes from Reg. 3 garden judges. My five write ins were Coffee to Go, Mean Grean, Michael Davisson, Toucan Sam and Star Poly. Probably should have put in either Fringy or Blood, Sweat and Tears just to have one full form in there!

Yeah, I noticed a long-petaled trend when looking at the photos of Floota's picks. ;)

I don't have a ton of experience, so I picked 3 from the list (all of which I have at least seen in person) and 3 others from my garden (all of which may only get the 1 vote nationwide, heh).

Floota - I'm glad you got to vote for all your favorites. Apparently my region is A-OKAY with the same old list. There are no recent unusual forms on it. If I only had more room, I would love to add all of your favorites to my garden. I tried to buy Michael Davisson from Judy for the fall, but she's all sold out. Apparently I'm now on a very long waiting list.

Wow, that Rose F. Kennedy is beautiful!
I haven't voted yet, but already checked some on the paper form.
Last year I voted but never saw any of my write-ins on the list, though there were a lot that got only 1 voice. I was a bit disappointed, I wanted 'my' daylilies there too ;) ;)

Thanks for the reminder -- voting accomplished. I saw only a few on the candidate list that got my vote. It appears my taste is very out of sync with the rest of my (huge) region.

Me too, I also noticed the long petaled trend here :-) The one I most noticed though is COFFEE TO GO. Such color.
I voted from the list as I figgure my write ins would never stand a chance. Just voted now.

Voted also. I always write in. 5 write ins and 5 that were already on the list is how it worked out this year. Whether the write-ins make the top or not isn't the objective. It is to let others know I can grow XYZ here and it performs.

From my understanding, any write-ins will still be on the final excel listing that is published. Am I wrong about that Julie?

Well, hey everyone! I decided to jump in on this one. Thanks for the reminder, floota!

I thought our Region 3 list was pretty good, much better than in previous years. Off the list, I chose:

Dances With Giraffes...new to my garden this year, but a very impressive new performance. Also, having seen it in other gardens, I knew its performance...and am so happy it's here now.

Flight of Orchids...have had this one for quite a while and it is terrific...this year, though, it was unbelievable...who knew great daylilies could get even better.

Screamcicle....another new one to my garden and again, very good performance for a newbie. I acquired it after seeing it in another NCDC-er's garden last year, so, again, I kinda new that it was going to be great.

Shores of Time....OMG, this is one of the most beautiful pinks out there and blooms like crazy...great performer.

Wild Cherry Wine...had to hunt this one down like crazy after seeing it in the Bennett garden a couple years ago. Once again, I knew it would be a wowzer (see a trend here?...lol).

    My write-ins were:

Arctic Lace....Does it get any better than this one? Perfect blooms every time and reblooms...even in my garden! In fact, is blooming now.

Walter Kennedy....So distinctive, so pretty....and blooms well here on top of that....however, I will confess that I think this one may still be a bit hard to come by and as such, maybe not the greatest candidate for this poll...but, I like it! (And to think I wouldn't have acquired it but a great friend who suggested we split it from Floyd Cove....hehe, thanks D!)

Claudine's Charm...okay, not the newest but among the best in performance...and so pretty...who doesn't like this one? It has it all...

Marseilles Watercolor...blooms and blooms and blooms...and then puts up rebloom scapes...wow! Puts others around it to shame (all right, some of them are newer, but still...)

Linda Beck....I wrestled with my last choice (more on that later)...but, gosh, this is a great daylily! Beautiful, blooms well...the whole package. One I sigh over...

Okay, if I could have voted for more on the list, I would have added:

Jellyfish Jealousy....after sitting in too much shade, I moved it last year...and wow! It's still out there bud building and blooming (and increasing)! So that's what all the talk was about! Now, I know.

Carnival in Mexico...after voting for this one for years, I think it should retire to the Pop Poll Hall of Fame.

    Peggy Jeffcoat....ditto above.

Her Best Bloomers....hasn't this won just about everything...and deservedly, of course. Take it to the PP Hall of Fame...

Tactical Cat....new to my garden, but I'm betting it gets my vote next year...

Heavenly Angel Ice...another perennial favorite....however, I moved it last year and it didn't quite live up to its standards...I know it will next year.

    Not on the list:

Rock Solid....should be, don't you think? This daylily also does it all.

Okay, I also like Bark at Me because it is so amusing to photograph. Grows in part shade here and still performs great.

Comment: I love Rose F. Kennedy! However, speaking of hard to get....I've been on the waiting list since last spring for this one and hope to get a single fan...at last...this fall. Hard for me to imagine it could win the PP...yet, just because it is so doggone hard to find (and expensive, too). Well, I hope you'll forgive me saying that as I feel like one of mine, as I mentioned, Walter Kennedy, is kinda like that. Sometimes we just can't resist! Who knows, maybe next year it'll be on my list.

Take it easy now. If I ever get caught up on photos (never happens!), I'll come back and let you guys know/see. It's been a great season, all told....and the lates are still doing their thing (yea!).

I think that since two of my favourites from last year (Which are on the list) haven't started blooming yet, it is a bit premature to vote. I will do so before the deadline, and post my list.

If there was an obvious trend in the form of Floota's picks, there is a pretty clear trend in color patterns in Edward's. ;)

Thanks for the reminder. It is so hot and dry here I almost forgot that we had a daylily season this year. My selections are all about performance -- these bloomed for me in big clumps for a long time. Well, all except Julie Newmar, who is on the list because she's so darned beautiful. It's strange to me that both Edward and I, so separated in miles and climate, chose Belle Cook.

    From the list:
    Evening Enchantment
    Julie Newmar
    Patsy Carpenter
    Sherry Lane Carr
    Wild Horses

    Write-ins:
    Belle Cook
    Chaco Canyon
    Graham Memorial
    Russian Easter
    Russian Ragtime

Anybody else ever heard of Graham Memorial? It bloomed early and for so long that I almost got tired of it.
