Villaware Food Strainer not available

From recommendations on this site I looked for the villaware and even tried calling the company. Apparently it's not made anymore. I found one on line that was a floor model but other than that one, I couldn't find any others.

Are there any other recommendations for a food mill similar to the villaware that offers different screen attachments?

Thanks.

Victorio is the new Villaware!! Try a search on that.

    Or even just "Food Strainer".

From other threads I thought that Roma is Villaware, is that not correct. If so, is this the right item?

Ann, who is thinking she maybe needs this also

Apparently you have not done a thorough search. Villaware and Victorio are BOTH DISCONTINUED BRAND NAMES. Neither brand will be easy to find. It would be like searching for a new Studebaker (remember those?). In any case, there a MANY very recent posts in this harvest forum that can show you the same exact model, design, photo, and other BRAND NAMES for the same thing. Also in mind, that these devices hve been vastly improved and offer no leaking at the crank shaft, more extension for the waste shute, and even have an optional motor unit, that can be attached for hands free use. The motor unit option is made by pasta rooling machine makers. There are also TWO DIFFERENT strainer screen TYPES. The older, was a model that had two big wingnuts on the sides that helped clamp them to the main housing. The newer screens are now twist on, and are held there by a single smapp thumb screw. Finding the latest, is Prago Trade, Roma, Back To Basics, Weston, and many other brand names. All made by the same manufacturer and offered a various prices. THere is also an optional accessory pack which containes a finer holed screen for seedy berries and juice extraction, as well as larger holed Salso screen for minced tomatoes and a screen for mashing cooked hard squash. Additionally, there is a shorter length grape spiral that allows the big grape seeds to pass out the end, without jamming. Today, pomegranates are a favorite, and with the berry or standard screen and teh shorter grape spiral auger, you can be assured that the pom seeds would not cause an issue.

I would put many source links here too, but becauze I have just repeated everything stated above in recent posts, it just seems too redundent and goes ignored. Am I wasting efforts??.

Sold under Victorio or Roma or Prago or Weston or 1/2 a dozen other names, they are similar machines tho with some minor differences. Shop carefully and compare as there is a wide range of prices on them. For example the Amazon listing is quite high in price but does include all the screens. If the odds are that you wouldn't use all those various screens, the basic model with just the tomato sauce screen is available for 1/2 that price.

    Victorio IS still being sold.

Here's the 7380 results I got in a Google search!! Not all of them are strainers for sale obviously, but many are! Some link to threads on this forum where they were discussed. Another example of how Google is usually a better search engine than the one here on Gardenweb.

I AM incorrect that Victorio is the new Villaware. Oops, sorry about that.

Thanks to all of you for not wanting to kill me for posting a question that has been answered many times on this forum. I'm sure it is frustrating to you. And Ken, I can't believe you were nice enough to reply with as much info as you did. You are not wasting efforts. I think I get it now. Sorry it took so long.

After I posted the msg I did another search and I couldn't believe all that came up. I was horrified. If there was a way I could have deleted my msg I would have. I think I was frantic to get an answer b/c I have hundreds of green tomatoes out in the garden ready to ripen and I wanted to get the strainer everyone seems to love before they did ripen.

I did order the Roma with just the tomato screen for now. If I like the strainer I'll get the other screens and maybe even the motor.

So here goes, I give my honor as a former girl scout to always do a search before posting a question.

My heartfelt apology to you all.

NO problems!! Currently, I have been DEMANDING that IVillage place the SEARCH windows at the TOP of each thread page. We here in the english language world, usually start at the top of a page and read down. Once you we a long bunch of threads and subjects, its most confusing just to figure out what to do next. Buried at the bottom ia an inconspicous SEARCH window. Love a title" "Looking for something??" Redundency is necessary sometimes as is being thick skinned. But once in a while there is a cry baby or two. Just rememeber that there are no dumb questions. I try my best to always help those who need it here. Even I need help and will do all I can to get it. Thanks for the kind words, as I needed a bit of cheering up today after a nasty time in the hospital again, as well as many other issues. 'Friendly reminders' are sometimes the result.

Mother nature, treat her good and she will treat you good. I will expect a full report on the strainer! I bet they sell out everywhere soon. Can't find a better way to deal with these seedy things. Soon I will be doing seedless red raspberry, sugarless jam. Last batch was 7 years ago, and never made it past the first 10 months. If your doing bushels, the motor unit will do well. Its a bit of a cludge to attach, but will not fall out. You will need a big vessel to catch the liquids as the pour out continously. A bushel of toms on 10-15 minutes! No prep, mo muss, no fuss..

Ok, gang, I have taken the plunge! After reading every post that I could find with Villaware, etc. in it, I think I have decided on the middle-of-the-road (not the all metal $200 version) Roma strainer (formerly Vittorio then Villaware) with four accessories. And I also surfed all over the web for the best deal. As usual, Amazon has the best prices, but they are sold through individual vendors, so they are evidently not eligible for free shipping. If you order from Amazon, you are looking at just under a hundred dollars total. But I found a company in Portland, Oregon called Ultimate Nourishment that sells the whole package for $81.95 with free ground shipping. I will put the link below if anyone is interested in going that route. (Yeah, let's clean them out and crash their site!) I am also afraid that these will be hard to find in another month, so you might better get while the gettin's good!

    --Gina

P.S. I'll have to wait for next year to get the motor, but they sell that, too, for those who are wealthier at present than I!

Here is the same same photo again. Search for FOOD STRAINER on the internet and/or eBay. VIllaware is an older name, which was repaced by the oldest Victorio ans squeezo many years ago. That price atv the link above is a bit high. They are usually selling for about $50 -$60 now and the accessroy screens and grape auger are a set at about $40 or $50 tops.

There are many sources for these and they go under many different names now, including Roma, Back to Basics, Prago Trade, Weston, (didn't I just write al this here before?)
The one I have in this photo has the newer twist on screens. The older units had wing nuts and seemed to leak some out the shaft area.

I bought the Roma through a store on ebay for 44.00 plus 10.50 shipping. The 4 screen kit is 38.00. Here is the address if you are interested

I ordered it on Friday and it was shipped same day. Hope it gets here tomorrow.

I would like to clarify that the $81.95 deal above includes the strainer, AND the four accessory screens, AND shipping! So I think that's the best deal around now if you want the extra screens, too.

    Gina,

I bought that same package from Ultimate Nourishment last month and am very pleased with their customer service and fast shipping. I just used it for the first time this week and wonder what the heck I did before I got it!

Good deals both!! Unlike most other things today, these are fortunately still priced in the same affordable area as 2-5 years ago.. It will be used, well and will not fail you!

WHOO-HOO! My new Roma strainer and accessories arrived yesterday, a mere eight days after I placed my order online (and I live out in the BOONIES)! So those of you still on back order status may wish to consider ordering from Ultimate Nourishment (link above).

Now if those darn tomatoes would just hurry and ripen!!

I also live out in the boonies and mine arrived yesterday. :) It's a lot larger than I pictured it. I wish my toms would ripen faster. This has not the best year for gardening what with the long cool overcast spring and whitefly infestation.

Well I got mine last week and have used it to make tomato juice and also some sauce. I absolutely love it. I love it so much I ordered the accessories and the motor and am awaiting those to do some salsa. It is really a time saver and well worth the money.

    Countrylivin2001,

Thank You for listening, and reading my recommendation! Be prepared, once motorized, you will need BIG BUCKETS to catch all the sauce. The motor unit isn't well defined as to attaching, but its not too diffult to figure out, postion its metal mounts so the motor shaft plugs into the strainer where the crank would go. My next batch of goodies is seedless red raspberry jam.

A link to a decent price for the Roma food strainer. Been discussed quite a lot lately as tomatoes overwhelm some people. This is IDENTICAL to the one in the photo above, and has the SAME NAME I hav also mentioned- Roma and Weston, who is the importer from Italy.

Forgot to also mention that the site is also offerenin the optional strainer screens, as well as several other Weston products, like a nice be sausage stuffer (like mine), massive meat grinder, dual hamburger patty molds, and even a wheat grass juice extractor. Sale only until midnight tonight..

The Weston has two stickers on the bottom saying "Made In China." The smaller cheaper one with the drum is made in Italy.

Man those are good prices! Thanks for posting the sale, Ken.
