I have dark green granite counter tops and I would like to paint the walls grey - would that look good? If yes

It is hard to tell with the glare of the windows, making the granite look more black than green. Can you repost new pictures to get a better idea of acual color? Going off of this set of pictures, I think a pale grey, more on the brown side, could work well.

    Hello,

You have a very cute kitchen and I think the attached images has some color options that will look amazing with the white and dark counter of your kitchen as well as the dining. Yes I do think the grey will suit it nicely try different tones of grays and make your decision from there once you see it in the wall.

    Good Luck!!!

Definitely more brown/green, less yellow or pink. The green countertops are the only color in the room, and you don't have all that much wall, so you could do something more dramatic. Darker, brighter...

Grey would be beautiful. May I suggest beefing the ceiling crown so that it is more to scale with the room, and painting the ceiling as well?

There is a SW color called Ancient Marble...it's a nice green that looks good with marble, white, and tan floors...

Taking into account your granite, wood and tile colors, I don't think grey is your best choice. Greys are difficult to get right when there are so many other color considerations in the room.
More pictures showing the other adjacent areas would help.

I think a neutral tan picked up from the color in your floor covering would work better than the gray.

Did you just move into this space? SAVE YOURSELF of having to paint YET! You don't have a problem but rather a wonderful challenge just as your walls and countertops are!

This may sound simplistic, but you may only need under the cabinet lighting and a few bright accessories, starting with the counter surface. I had the same problem many times and solved it with simple lighting and black containers (any shape or colour) of realistic looking grass on the end and corners of the counter. You can get all all of these things in Loblaws, Ikea, Walmart, Homesense type places and second hand stores. Have fun looking!

What strikes me far more than the countertops at first glance, is that your workspace is way too dark without task lighting. If it was lit under the cabinets you probably would not even be bothered by the dark countertops. Install under the cabinet lights to brighten up the space since your workspace is more troublesome than your dark countertops. Go to a hardware store or Ikea to buy the economical kind you plug in and affix along the underside of the cupboard.

If you are unsure of your own creativity, have fun taking your photo into an upscale paint or decor store and the professional decorator there will instantly know what will work without obligation for you to buy anything. They have fun solving such problems with people and it only takes them a minute to do it. They don't just specialize in colour theory. Just tell them what I have suggested.

Artists use dark surfaces and lines, countertops too, as a backdrop to highlight or frame a subject. You can play up your red curtains and yellow walls with more primary brights around the room. Artwork on the wall, no matter how simple as long as it is bright, will give life to the space. Some art with deep colour patches in them will draw in a person viewing the room as a whole.

Plants take the sterile and dark feel out of a space too - even if they are fake. Sometimes we think that it is the elements that bother us but it is really that we don't see them as a clean background surface for colour and shape to come forward.

I noticed you did not have artwork on the walls. Try images of herbs and gardens and trees, grass to freshen the space. No one, even you, will notice that your counters are dark and instead will enjoy good taste in colour, because the dark counters and the warm cream on the walls let the colours and functional items shine! I'd love to see the after pic!

This is great advice, but the question was posed almost two years ago by landonvmiller, who is no longer participating in the thread!! It's a problem with the Houzz web layout. They put related discussions on the right and they may be very outdated. Landon...have you painted your kitchen yet??

I guess we're going to have to pay attention to the date of the first posting. Thanks for calling attention to this problem.

Where did you get your glass table ? Is it sturdy and what is the diameter? Thanks for your pics. Do you have lighting under your counters?

    I need help. t
These countertops are more green than I'd like. I would really like to bring out the GREY (undertones) instead. the cabnets are a really red cherry. Between the green undertones and the red cabinets the whole kitchen is too christmas-y. what paint color would you recommend?

I recommend you start a new dilemma and be sure to include a full explanation and several pictures of the cabinets (no need to show the open pantry), counters and the room to be painted. Good luck!
