Thanks, Bob. What a great bunch of prospects you have. I've never been a fan of dark-eyed daylilies, but many of yours are so striking they could change my mind. My personal faves among the dip seedlings are 25, 28, 39 and 55. But the best of all is tet seedling 63 -- I'd wait in line for that one.

Bob, I was browsing around Charlotte's site the other night and saw that you'd updated yours. Checked your seedlings out then and all I have to say is "WOW" just beautiful and so different anything else out there. Hurry up and intro them so we can all have your beauties growing in our gardens. :)

What an embarrassment of riches! I've seen some of your seedlings here before in multiple posts, but being able to compare your favorites side-by-side was a real treat. For what it's worth, my favorites are 18 (which reminds me of a dianthus bloom, with the "pinked" edge on the eye), 36 (like a Victorian gown, ultra-feminine and graceful - if I bred it, I'd have to name it for my daughter), 48 (I love that unusual eye color against the soft creamy-peach), and 59 (EVERYONE seems to like 59).

Bob, those are all lovely. My pic of the tets is 64. My MOST favorite of the dips is 40. I like 9. 18. 19, 27, 29, 32, 33, 50, 51, & 58. You might say I liked them all but to my eyes, these are the ones that stuck. Congratulations on some beautiful future intros and as Jan said, hurry with them...I am old...Ellie

Hi! New to the forum... Daylilies have recently piqued my interest, even though I've grown a few of the standards for some time... the vast choices available now are astounding!

Anyway... my very favorite has to be #41... a luscious bowl of sherbet, that one is!

I also am in love with #36, #60 and #64... #57, #17, #15 and #9 are also wondrous beauties!

It's a difficult choice... they all have merit! The colors and shapes are just awesome! Thank you so much for sharing!

I like them all, I cannot choose, captain! I think the one that intrigues me the most though would be #50, it looks like it has some sort of a happy face to it, like if it were a pixie flower smiling or something. Good job, great flowers!

Bob, THANK you so much for this post. I am so excited to see some of your seedlings again. I think they are all beautiful! How long have you been hybridizing? I just wonder how long it took to get flowers this great and how many did you have to compost? Number 59, Hearts Attack, is absolutely stunning! I don't think I have ever seen another like it. Please let us know when you introduce your daylilies. You will sell out quickly just from people on this forum.

Laurel....one of my inspirations was looking at a dianthis one day and thinking...why can't I bloom a daylily like this? Funny you should mention that. I started hybrdizing in 1996, started doing patterns in 1999. It will be couple years before I have enough increase to offer these, and then of course they will be limited. I also have decided to do conversions. Larry Grace kindly invited me down to his place this fall and he is going to teach me how to do conversions. I plan to take photos of the seedlings that don't live up to what I would want to have for intros. and I will offer those in the Auction this fall. Right now I'm thinking maybe late August. So some of you should be able to get the genetics and work with them from the Auction. Thanks for all your questions. Bob

Thanks, Bob - I'll have to keep an eye on the LA in August. Even your "also rans" have lovely characteristics and great genes, and I'd be delighted to have one (or two, or three!) in my garden to enjoy and to breed from. Funny about the dianthus thought, too. That's another flower I enjoy more every year.

I can't see myself ever doing conversions. I'm skittish about the idea of working with the conversion agent involved. I'll let others do that, and I'll buy the beautiful fruit of their labors. More power to you, and I hope you get excellent results.

I applaud your work in developing patterned daylilies, AND the fact that they are Northern hardy! I hesitate to purchase some of those Southern beauties, for fear that the fanciness won't come true in my zone 5a.

I enjoyed reading your "Hybridizing For Pattern" article in the Fall/Winter Region 2 AHS Newsletter! One of your statements in the article was, "Sometimes one has to stare at the flower for a long time to see everything."

It is extremely difficult to choose favorites, because if I go back and look at them again, I'd probably keep changing my mind! At first glance, though, I chose 17, 22, 28, 39, 50, 51, 58, 59, 63, and my favorite: #36, with the dark veining and wide, frilly white edges.

Number 9 is what grabbed my attention first. Very pretty especially if it could hold its color all day and not bleach out. You've created some real beauties.

Stunning! I like 28 best... although 59 is awesome. 9, 36, 5, 8, 45/46/47 & 50. The Dish Ran Away With the Spoon is just to die for. I can't wait to bid on LA!

#3 - love the roundness and the tiniest of purple edge
#10 - the delicate markings and difference in shape and texture between petals and sepals
#24 - love, love, love this one. Always a fan of Malachite Prism. If you don't know what to do with it, send it my way!
#28 - definitely a kaleidoscope
#34 - another WOW!!!! Hope it has my name on it.
#39 - fascinating color combo on that bicolor. also like 38, reminds me of an iris
#41 - great bicolor, peach and pink with dark eye.
#56 - great yellow with maroon wash love the bleed and veining
#59 - what's not to love here.
#60 - great color combo
#61 - lovely huge eye
